I am surprised by how many assume that Shep possibly not winning a starting QB job in college would mean an inevitable position switch. With the number of athlete at QB formations teams are running today, that seems pretty short sided.

Just because Shep might not win out as a team's main passing QB, doesn't mean he can't put a hurting on teams with his superior running instincts. Shep + a seasoned Lee could be a helluva two headed monster. Two totally different dynamic offenses to prepare for.

Hell if he can play anything close to D Dixon at Oregon with that option read he will be deadly.

Shep has a bit more speed and wiggle in the open field than Dixon. But at this point Dixon is superior in the passing game. But Shep can surpass Dixon in that category given time.

The beauty of the whole thing is.....

Shep is already a QB, so we won't need to call it the "wildtiger" formation.

We can just call it offense.

Well the thing is all QBs are a gamble, and some people don't want Shep's athleticism to be lost on the bench if he doesn't make it as the best pure QB we have. Just saying as long as he is healthy he can contribute behind center with his athletic ability even if he isn't the main man chucking the football.

I think Shep running the RP-style veer option/read option packages will get him on the field his freshman year.

Getting in the lineup at QB in those packages will give him the opportunity to get practice reps and develop/prove himself as a passing QB. I don't see anything in his HS films that says he can't be a passing QB. As others have pointed out, QB is a tough position to evaluate when making the jump from HS to College.

Running the option packages greatly increases his chances of becoming a starting QB down the line, if he's capable. Lets him get his foot in the door, so to speak.

The coaches are not recruiting RShepard to sit on the bench. He is a playmaker and there are multiple position within the Crowton's offense to get the ball in his hands.

The staff can keep the opposing defenses off balance and guessing. I forsee Shepard being inserted in the ball game at several different position from QB to RB to WR to slot. Sometimes used a decoy and sometimes as the playmaker.

Using him at QB alone could limit his production. Great leader, great student, a great young man, and soon to be a great Tigah.

Shep reminds me a lot of Reggie McNeal.McNeal was a 4.32,athletic,strong armed quarterback with some accuracy questions.People need to realize though that completion percentage can't dictate a qb's accuracy alone, dropped passes can play a huge role too.Tigercat was on the money saying Shep should take some snaps with Lee next year.Maybe even run a 2qb set like the Gators do with Tebow and Newton.

The term "wild(insert team mascot here) formation" needs to be retired people.

I do not think the Tigers need to be using anything initiated by the 'piglets' in NW Arkansas. I am with the poster that says do away with anything to do with 'Wild XXXXX'.
