We know this is true. Woodward is completely inept at everything except spending ridiculous amounts of money.

Can we stop with the Napier talk? He beat Nicholls by 3. Georgia Southern by 8. He has 1 "quality win" which is Iowa State. They got stomped by UT. This isn't our coach of the future.

He’s working with Sun Belt talent. Come on dude.
He’s been consistently winning. 9+ win seasons are no small feat.

I think the Jay Johnson hire speaks differently. When the hire was announced, most of the posters didn't have his name anywhere on their list. After the dust had settled, it looks like Woodward has made a great hire. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go after someone young and under the radar like Matt Campbell at Iowa State.

I think whoever is going to be the next coach will need to nail the interview process and paint a clear picture about the future of the team. I fully expect Woodward to look for a very detail oriented coach with a "process". I highly doubt he'll hire anyone like Orgeron who's contribution and path to success relies 100% on getting the best recruits and hiring the best coordinators.

As long as Saban is around, we're not going to out recruit Alabama across the board.

Don't understand this argument. It's apples to oranges.
One you get mediocre players, but get to play against mediocre competition.
The other you get better players, but have to play better competition.
It cancels itself out.

I guess we should not consider Fickell either.
Baylor should have never considered Matt Rhule from Temple.
Washington should have never considered Chris Peterson.

Have a feeling those who want Woody to overpay for an established Power 5 figurehead
are gonna regret it when they get comfortable and are just collecting their check.

He's only 56. That won't be a factor.

Can anyone name another successful G5 coach that jumped immediately to a top tier P5 HC position and had success?

Peterson is one but even his UW teams towards the end of his career struggled.

Urban went from BGSU to Utah and then to Florida.

Utah was part of the Mountain West at that time, so technically Urban counts as a successful G5 to P5 jump.

Also Matt Rhule from Temple to Baylor. Took an 1-11 Baylor team to 11-3 in just three years. Now has Carolina at 3-1.

If the HC jobs were open at Bama, Clemson, Ohio St., etc..., would Napier be on their short list? Highly, highly doubtful so why should he be on ours? LSU is not a proving ground.

Peterson is 57 years old. That is 3 years younger than Coach O and 12 years younger than Saban. The question with Peterson is does he want to come out of retirement. He left Washington because of stress. Is a job in the SEC less stressful than one in the Pac10? I think not. But - i would expect that a couple years off would make him tanned, rested, and ready to come back to college football and finally win a national championship.

To further this point. I think that the interviewing process will be more important to Woody than any single coach's recent success. So just because "X coach" wins games at "Y school", it doesn't mean that's who will/should be hired.

That’s a load of crap.

He got Peterson to Washington on a very good deal after he had long shown little interest in leaving Boise State.

Jay Johnson wasn’t an insane money hire.

If you only want a championship coach you have to pay for it, but he has gone out and hired other coaches with pretty decent success record.

You misread the intent. I care because of familiarity with recruiting — not because I want coonass chris to feel warm & fuzzy inside.

You’re also likely not putting up millions of dollars to take that chance, so of course you’re not afraid.
