The train is so easy and it’s not that much slower than an uber if you catch traffic. You are missing out on all of Chicago’s exceptional museums. The Art Institute is one of the best art collections in the world. Field Museum special exhibits are amazing (the dinosaur exhibit alone js worth the cost of admission). Aquarium is nice, you probably need to pre-buy tickets. Depending on the weather; the riverwalk has some cool restaurants and shops. The Lincoln Park Zoo is free! If you like football or baseball take a tour of Wrigley Field or Soldier Field (both are good). If your wife shops, a stop into Marshall Fields (now Macy’s) on Wabash is amazing architecture- they have an original Tiffany ceiling!
