I mean, there are really, I think, a few strong possibilities for the misinformation about the piano. It came from either:

1) Zion's stepfather, who has been more negative toward the franchise in the past than Zion himself has. I think that Zion is actually happy with New Orleans, but I fear that his stepfather is not and may try to ultimately push him away.

2) Someone currently in the front office who's unhappy with the job that Griffin is doing. I feel sure that Trajan and Swin are not the ones doing this, but there was other stuff in Clark's article that clearly came from a disgruntled employee, so I think that this is a valid option. But for Clark to report the piano thing, I would think that the source would have had to have been someone who had heard about it from Zion himself, and I have trouble imagining who that would be.

3) Alvin Gentry. I actually think that this is the most likely source. Gentry has a record of putting out negative info on Griffin and the Pelicans since his firing, and he would've been in a position to hear the story directly from Zion.

4) JJ Redick. Someone else who has an ax to grind with David Griffin, who was in the bubble and could've heard the story from Zion.

Am I missing anyone?

I think somewhat predictably, the people that have been in Griff’s corner this whole time are rallying to the opportunity to do so right now. When, fact is, at this point we simply have two conflicting narratives and no way of verifying either at the moment. Even if my Spidey sense tells me the truth feels to be closer to the Zion/Griff story for a number of reasons than the inferences Clark made in his framing, ultimately I can’t say one way or another.

It's very clear some of you have made up your mind on this and me saying Griff lied/misrepresented the truth in his remarks today isn't going to change that. You've made this about me instead of Griff doing a bad job.

No, I have not made up my mind. I want to know the truth, and I want to know how you can be so sure that you weren't fed bad info, when a key part of the story was clearly wrong.

I mean there’s a lot of ways this could have played out, including maybe Zion inadvertently fed the fire of the narrative by simply joking for comedic effect about an incident with someone he already felt awkward around.

Also, could also just be true…As you are starting with the assumption that you assume Griff to be the truth teller here, and we don’t really have a way to know that

I'm pretty good about not being used. And I think my track record speaks for itself. Nothing stated today really contradicts the story. If you don't believe me that's fine. I'll stop posting here.

Then do it ?

I hope you don’t stop posting because of these few guys looking for their moment in the sun to try and ”own” the local sports personality, but I can understand if you do.

I don’t know where I come down but I do sort of think at this point it’s immaterial since what was projected with the willingness of Zion to show a unified and collaborated front seems more important than whatever happened two seasons ago.

And I think the larger point you made holds as true today as ever: just win. If Griff does that this stuff truly becomes irrelevant.

But the way the story was framed, especially by Jake on his show, was negative in a way that is now clearly inaccurate.
Clearly?

No thing happened today to make that story any less true whether it is or isn't true.

“I have inside info I could share in here , but y’all are not grateful enough so I’m going to leave” is a Crewz level baby back bitch move.

Lost some respect.

I also think Zion was sugar coating a bit and was smoothing things a bit when he said “we don’t agree on everything but it’s all love”.

They probably don’t agree on a lot.

But it’s also probably not as bad as the article makes it seem
like most of things, the truth is probably in the middle, correct.

Here's how I view it based on today. If I pretend everything in the article is 100% true then ask myself how I'd expect Griff and Zion to respond, my answer would be exactly like they did today.

So why are people saying today proves anything at all, I don't really get that.

To me it would almost make me feel even better if Zion was actually lying to help cover up for Griff and actively helping to massage the image of the team and franchise after that reporting.
I wouldn't say better but the premise is spot on. It would show he's still invested very much in being here.

I think it'd be one thing if I came here (or anywhere) with stuff and was regularly wrong. I post here, add to discussion and shed some light on different things, and get flamed like this. A handful of you keep screaming at me to explain myself. I say Griff lied today. And that isn't good enough. frick off, I'm not going to tell you all the steps I took and people I talked to. You're not my boss.

This whole thing turned into a Gamegate harassment campaign against me under the guise of but it's about ethics in Pels journalism!

The frick should I keep coming back for?

Christian Clark of nola.com posted an article this week about the strained relationship between the team, and more specifically Griff and Zion. One of the bits of info that got the most attention was in the Bubble Griffin reportedly tried to bond with Zion by playing piano for him.

Today Griff refuted that info by saying not only did that not happen, but he doesn't even know how to play the piano. Zion also refuted the story but he did make a comment about Griff having a keyboard. It was unclear if the keyboard was a joke or the kernel of truth the piano rumors are based on.

Either way, the core story was there's trouble in paradise. Whether it's true or not Zion circled the wagons today and said everything's fine.

Dude. Relax. This place might not be for you if you’re going to lose your shite over this.

Most of us would love to have you here but you really need to thicken that skin and learn how to handle it. This isn’t a Twitter echo chamber.

To Hester just say “lol frick off loser”.

To GOP just say, I think you are wrong and they are lying, end of explanation.

No need to say anymore.

Discuss things in other threads.

Hester is also the one that almost single handedly drove Michael McNamara off of here.

He has this bizarre thing with driving off and harassing Pels bloggers.
