Does anyone have any idea where I can get my hands on some ammo for the above? I cannot find it anywhere online, I bought a rifle to take on an elk hunt in Montana and now I'm scared I won't have any ammo to shoot out of it like an idiot Also willing to buy a few boxes off anyone who wants to sell, prepared to pay a premium for my stupidity too

Ill be honest, Ive found that if your going to shoot these exotic(ish) calibers it does wonders to reload your own. Not only do you save money if you do much shooting at all but much more choices for bullets to fit whatever role you need. And the cherry on top is to fine tune for each weapon.

It's harder to find rifle primers than it is to fine these rounds

How much does it cost to get into reloading from scratch? You're quite right and this I think may be the straw that breaks the camel's back. I absolutely need to be reloading my own. I have a 25-35 WCF that's hard to find ammo for, my great granddad's gun (1894 Winchester with half a buffalo nickel he hand hammered in to replace a broken front sight). And a number of other obscure calibers I want easier access to.

I picked up custom 257 WBY from an outfit in Montana. Not recalling the name right now.

depends so much lol. for just precision rifle or odd caliber reloading a Rock chucker rcbs press is hard to beat. then its just shellholders, powder scale, hand primer, die sets, way to trim brass for rifle calibers, I encourage wet tumbling. A couple reloading manuals (I also use Hodgdon website) and then its just components. Thats how I got the ball rolling and added a few things here and there until I got my Dillon 650 for 223/556 and 9mm bulk reloading. Start saving brass now and pick up what you can find.

Everything is high right now but id start looking for a rick chucker asap. Might can even find one used somewhere close by.

As far as die sets, I really like redding dies but they are expensive. RCBS and Hornady make good more budget friendly options.

Id say in the current climate 5-800 depending on what you bought and could be rolling nicely.

rcbs rock chucker master kit at midway

In stock for 500. I dont like that powder funnel nor the case lube but the powder scale is decent and comes with a couple other tools i forgot about such as chamfer/deburr tool and hex key set (if you dont already have one)

If it were me, id buy just the rcbs press, lee hand primer, lee perfect powder measure, either the powder scale shown in that kit or buy a high quality digital scale, hornady one shot lube, whatever chamfer/deburr tool. whichever manual you want, universal powder funnel, reloading case tray, lee caliber specific hand case trimmer and buy the cutter and lock stud (it uses your drill and very accurate) frankford arsenal lite wet tumbler with stainless steel pins.

Sounds like you've got some good leads so far. I'll also suggest Steve's Outdoors in Magnolia, AR. Ph # 870-234-227. I won't be surprised if he has it, but it'll be expensive if he does. Save all your brass and strongly consider handloading at a later date (once you can find primers ). The current times are very frustrating for ALL handloaders. I've been looking for Reloder 17 gun powder for nearly 11 mos, but to no avail. Then 2 days ago I got an email notification at work about 1030 AM. My work filter blocks "gun sites" and I didn't have time to leave the grounds until about 330 PM at which time it was ALL GONE Good luck w/ your ammo. I'd be sure and use a controlled expansion and stout bullet like a Partition, Barnex TTSX, Scirocco, maybe Accubond or others. No Ballistic Tips.

Call Jim's Firearms in Baton Rouge. They will possibly have some. They usually have ammo in the back but you have to ask.

I walked into the Wal-Mart in McComb MS two Saturdays ago and they had a case of 308 Federal 150 grains and 300 Win Mag 150 grains on the shelf they had just put out. Limit 3 boxes of each. I bought 3 each. I felt like I hit the lottery at .19.99 for the 308 and 23.99 for the 300's

As others have mentioned, if you get any ammo, be sure to retrieve and save all the brass, it’s worth about $2.00 a round for empty hulls.
Wildcat calibers are often harder to get than standard calibers but even more so during worldwide shortages like currently being experienced. If you aren’t real interested in getting into reloading, you might consider asking friends, co-workers, hunting club buddies if any of them reload and if so, would they be interested in loading for you for a reasonable charge.
Primers of any kind are almost impossible to get right now but someone already loading for a large rifle caliber may be willing to load you a box or two using their primers.
