Last week wasn’t quite as bad. But I get it.

Um ...Hell NO!!! Please never say you want anything Miles offense related.

Now, with that said, if it's TDP then no we won't be able to run but Kiner gives me hope. But you do it out of the shotgun not I formation telegraphing that you're running the ball.

mmmmmm.....Have you watched the miscommunication andblown coverages thus far?

Saw some against CMU. One time the CMU receiver dropped the ball. The other time wasn’t necessarily bad communication, but late reacting. However our LB was athletic enough to make the tackle and prevent a lot of YAC. Need to react quicker agains better SEC athletes or it’s off to the races.

If i was Leach, I’d cross the TE all day if they have a decent one. PA to the RB and a route out of the backfield into the vacated space. Make them hand off enough coverages and they’ll miss some.

Despite everyone melting down, there was really only 2 bad plays the starters allowed all night on defense. The blown coverage on the TD and a 15 or so yard run up the middle because a certain linebacker filled the wrong hole. They’re starting to get things figured out.

The Answer: Hopefully.

We saw issues vs UCLA but I really think those stemmed from how bad we were getting gashed on the ground. Basically our LBers were so focused on stopping the bleeding from the run that they messed up the coverage.

The last 2 games have been much better from a coverage and communication standpoint. There was at least one blown coverage in each of these games as well though. So we will see.

I hope the LBs and safeties are getting their communication skills sharpened. Leach is coming after you guys. You are the weak link. Get ready.

Thanks for the new information. Will let the players know.

I’m actually more worried about the defense than the offense against State. That’s a reversal from last week.

Dline getting a push up the middle and collapsing the pocket is critical for this game...

You have to mix it up. If Leach knows you are playing zone every play he’ll have his guys search for the holes and sit in them. If he knows you are in man he’ll run rub routes constantly. What makes Leach so hard to defend is that he teaches his receivers to recognize the defense and choose routes accordingly. I would run matchup zones and then fake zones by matching up with receivers for about three steps - long enough for them to choose a man route - then find your zone. If you make Leach dink and dunk eventually you will sack him, or a lineman will bat the ball, or something else bad will happen to them.

I agree. I think we should play more zone than usual, but we will have to mix it up some. I do think we should play a lot of Dime because Leach WILL NOT run the ball. They had a great per carry average vs Memphis and would have killed them if they had stayed with it, but he just won’t do it.

Not giving up chunk plays and winning enough 3rd downs is the key. Rogers is perfectly happy to dink and dunk and he’s accurate on short throws, but if you can get pressure on him, he will eventually make some mistakes.

Memphis’ defense really isn’t very good, but they limited big plays (except for the last drive) and got enough stops to win it. State had a hard time scoring in the red zone and making key 3rd and 4th down plays.

Exactly. A dime defense would get shredded 50% of the time with our Safety play if we scheme with 3 Safteies or if we played 4 CBS. It would be a disaster if we played zone and man would be worse in a Dime package.

I don’t understand how in the hell you can think having Stingley, Ricks, McGlothern, Flott, Ward and one other safety on the field at the same time is going to be more of a problem than State constantly putting Clark and Baskerville in the spin cycle. Do you really think an extra LB will fare better in coverage if the staff won’t play Jones, even if he’s perfect for this matchup? Baskerville’s speed is limited and Clark, while improved the last two weeks, is hard to rely on when things get complex.

Even if we have to put Cam Lewis out there to play the other safety spot, because he’s actually been solid and hasn’t had any busts, fine. This is a faster and more athletic group vs WRs and maybe 1 back. State doesn’t use any TEs and won’t run the ball more than 10-15 times. They won’t make you pay for playing smaller.

If Jay Ward can’t play, then I agree that more Dime could be a problem because they would have to rely on Burns or Harris, and they would eventually frick up. I would feel a lot better about our base D if the staff was willing to play Jones a lot, but if they wouldn’t vs CMU, they won’t vs State. They don’t do out of the box.

That’s really not how these sayings work. Arguably, it isn’t super easy to catch a bank robber.

Weren't a lot of people griping about Patrick Queen early on in the '19 season?

I know it was Central Michigan, but I thought Clark played a really good game and I'm hopeful it's a springboard the rest of the season for him.

I hope so. I just think this particular week will be as tough as it gets on him and the other LBs. Leach’s offense is a unique challenge for them.

Well we know that MS0 will be moved to DE this weekend. It concerns me that he will not be patient and stay gap sound. No matter how big and athletic you are, if you are a DE and you crash down and lose leverage the RB is going to easily run around you to the outside then you are going to cause traffic problems for the rest of the LBs to get to the RB on the edge. MS0 playing DE this weekend has to stay patient and just do his job and the big plays will come to him. But I'm worried he's going to make rookie mistakes at DE and lose contain.

I hope so. It is the same fu$king scheme that Leach has been running for years. It was a sin to watch it work last year.

If LSU does not learn how to defend this year, fire everyone.
