Hines had trouble snapping the ball on top of being severely overweight.

If Hills our best option at LT then that’s fine... but gotta say I expected Dumervil to easily be in this position at this point. Maybe he’s hurt. ?
I didn’t know this about Dumervil, but the dude looked small at RT last weekend. He’s uncharacteristically skinny for a linemen.

We are going to have our bookend tackles next year in Will Campbell at LT and Dellinger at RT. I really believe Campbell could be the extremely rare player that starts at LT his first game as a freshman.

Turner ain't getting it done so without Wire available this is the best option.
He needs the reps and might not be there yet- but he's not at his ceiling yet either.

This thread could be summarized with how piss poor Cregg was at recruiting and development. Just absolutely putrid.

James Cregg's retention, along with the off field problems, will be what shows O the door. Whenever it happens. Our line couldn't block Mcneese.

Former Crimson Tide commit before he became a Tiger

I mean, Hill is the 4th LT. You’re kind of desperate At that point no matter who you are

If turner is on the field, there’s a problem. He has pictures of a coach or something.

Tackles are supposed to be your most athletic lineman. Nothing about deculus is athletic but he is a big body that I think can do well at guard. Hines should be able to do a better job than Shanahan
I like this but think Dillinger and Dumervil need snaps at OT. Turner has terrible pad level.
Deculus is so clearly a guard to me.

One of the most ridiculous issues we face is not having an SEC caliber center. I’m not talking all SEC but just SEC level talent. How does that happen 2 years out from a perfect season? Unbelievable that we couldn’t teach a single other lineman to snap the ball or recruit an adequate center. I used to rail on Les for his roster mismanagement but this may be the worst yet. This and #18 on defense should get Ed fired even without all his off field BS.

What is it exactly about the way he looks that leads you to believe he'll start again?

That's much better than being too bulky. The best offensive tackles typically are lean and lanky. It helps with quickness and flexibility.

Absolutely. Give me the OL that comes from high school at 275-285 versus the guy that’s 340. It’s rare for OL to start as freshmen and there’s a reason for it. Most, even the ones that weight 325+, aren’t strong enough or have the technique down enough to play. I’d rather have to put 20-25 pounds of good weight on a kid his first year than worry about having a kid drop 30 pounds of body fat AND still get him stronger. For everyone wanting Hines at center let me ask you a question. How many centers do you see that weight 340? On top of his snapping issues he has said before that he doesn’t like playing center so you’re screwed right there because the kid’s heart wouldn’t be in it. He’s a classic phone booth downhill run blocking guard that would have played well in Les Miles’ system but we need our guards to be strong enough to not get blown off the ball but agile enough to kick out and pull when we run outside. This is why the Saints always have a top OL. All of their guys, even Peat to an extent, can go head to head and open holes between the tackles as well as pull when we run outside or screens. I’ll be very interested to see what they do with Emery Jones next year. He has the talent to see the field early and I could see them trying him at center just to get him on the field.

Do you have a better solution? He played better than Turner at LT and Wire is unavailable. There’s Dellinger but I think he may still be healing from his shoulder injury because they haven’t put him out there much and I think Dellinger ends up our starting RT next year anyway. You’re running out of options quickly so from what I can see Hill is your best bet. I’d like to see a starting OL next year of
LT: Campbell
LG: Hill
C: Emery Jones
RG: Bradford or Dumervil
RT: Dellinger
That’s 2 freshmen starting but I strongly believe those two have the talent to do it. Jones right now is a better player than Charles Turner.

Based on the NFL and the past few All-Pro teams. The Goldilocks Zone for Offensive Tackles is 6'3-6'5 and between 305-315.
