Do public courses need to establish internal OB to avoid this issue?

I have played from the wrong fairway over the years, but not on purpose. It’s a safety issue with full courses.

It’s one thing for the best players in the world to play down the wrong fairway for position, but I’m not sure this needs to be imitated on a wide scale by average Joe’s playing in a Saturday game.

I'm not sure many amateurs and weekend golfers do that very often. I've never played with someone who did this on purpose.

Internal OB where there isn't any type of housing involved sucks arse. Let's not make it worse

It’s not a public course but if you’re approach into 10 green at BRCC isn’t from 18 fairway, you’re a braver man than I lol

First thing I thought of when I opened this thread. Avoid 1+ stroke hazards at all costs is my MO.

I’ll play to 2 fairway from 8 tee at Webb, and make no apologies for it.

Number 6 at the Island its very easy to play the 1 fairway. I always lineup to cut the corner but I always end up pulling one left or shanking it into 1 which makes it a shorter albeit blind shot. I always thought they should have extended the pond near the 5th green all they way between 1 and 6s fairways and it make both holes much more interesting

I've only done this once all year. Played it down the left side of a massive pond through rough instead of the fairway and cut a large dog leg left Par 4. Very fun hole to play but you have to carry it about 280 so miss hits are alway wet.

A local course I play quite often has one hole where the next fairway over is a safe shot. I usually can't bring myself to play smart golf and end up trying to carry a pond to a narrow fairway. Get it about 50/50. Mostly depending if there are people on the next fairway or not.

On another note, we had a couple of newbs playing an adjacent hole to us. First guy tees off and hits about 10 yards next to us. Guy I'm playing with is a loose cannon and started yelling "fore mother phucker". Next guy lines up and does the same thing. I told my buddy to go get in the cart and I went over and calmly explained that we're not going to get mad if we get hit and you yell fore. If we get hit and you don't yell fore, that's when we are going to have problems. It is aggravating when people land near you and you don't hear anything before the ball lands. . .
