Skylar was used more as a 2 under Wade. He played PG his freshman season under Johnny Jones and had the ability to take over the primary ball handling duties when called on under Wade but Javonte was moved to the lead guard spot after his freshman season when Waters left.

Waters without question. He could control the entire game from the PG spot and, tough not a great defender in the sense of keeping guys from scoring, was excellent at stealing the ball. That helped compensate for a lot of otherwise poor defense.

Wade's first team from a personnel standpoint probably had no business even getting to the NIT...let alone beating some solid teams that year. And without Waters they would not have.

Mays was more of a "2" guard with Waters on the team and while Javonte is underappreciated for his play at the PG spot, he wasn't the overall playmaker from a team aspect that Waters was.

Waters and it isn’t close to me. If he was 6’2” he’d be starting in the NBA and doing very well. Guy was so much fun to watch.

If TW was taller he would be a super star in the NBA.

Waters. I do think If Smart had come back for his Senior year though it could’ve been a special season for him. Watford as well. Just made no sense to me why those guys left just to go undrafted especially with NIL passing. They could’ve had a legitimate National title caliber team with those 2 back, made some money, and raised there draft stock with an SEC Title and deep tournament run.

Not even close

Without Waters, that 1st year under Will Wade would have been really tough.

Tremont was a program-changing caliber player. Easily him. Javonte was terribly under appreciated by LSU fans, but he wasn’t as dynamic as Tremont. Skylar wasn’t really a point guard, so to speak.

Thank God Waters fell to us after the Georgetown situation. Waters and it isn't close. Waters has to be mentioned as a top 5 PG all time at LSU. Not only was the guy an absolute beast of a guard, he was as clutch as it gets. A&M, Michigan, Maryland, just to name a few.

This thread feels like it was started with the purpose of putting Smart down.

It would be like starting a thread of O’s best starting QBs:

Burrow
Max
Etling
Brennan

Actually OP is worse cuz I’d I did a direct comparison to his PG list it’dbe:

Burrow
Darrell Williams (wildcat)
Brennan

Waters is the best PG in the current century at LSU.

Edit: I see this has been said a few times.

Maybe this thread would be more appropriate in about 10 years. There is not enough history there to pick from.
