Upright is much better for ease of use and access. The only down side is the door will not use gravity to automatically close. So when your little kid goes in there grabs a popsicle, doesnt close the door all the way, which leaves the light on, which warms the freezer, for 2 damn days, and you discover 80% of the contents completely thawed out.

I've had this happen on multiple occasions, so I got rid of the kids and kept the upright.

I've had both chest and upright. I never want a chest again.
