The job is one thing, but staying in BR for the schools is absurd. A big reason to flee Louisiana is to take advantage of good public schools elsewhere. Your kids will make new friends.

My wife has issues with uprooting the kids. I’ll leave it at that.

Florida Boulevard victim shot to death.
Well it looks like we can chalk another homicide up after a relatively quiet July 4th weekend in BR.

You haven’t seen anything yet.
When Louisiana stops paying the Federal $300 per WEEK unemployment benefits next month, things will get much worse.
We are about to see a run on violent crime like we haven’t before in this country.

I'm not disagreeing, but what does one have to do with the other - these shooting are not being done by people who are/were working - from the information provided by the news coverage it appears that the majority of shootings are people in their mid teens to around 30 - I don't believe passing endless laws on top of laws is the answer bc they don't mean anything to these criminals - the change has to start at home-church-community-or realistically and seriously enforcing existing laws - jmho

It’s very nice and very safe, but they still have to go to grocery stores and dr appts at various places and you just never know these days. The creep is creeping closer.

my Mom and I were having this discussion the other day. I went to the doctor at woman's hospital physician towers and we all know most babies in BR are born at that hospital. there are now metal detectors at the doors and signs in the elevators saying certain behaviors will not be tolerated. That is not the environment I want to be in.

I don't think we'll be in BR in 10 years but maybe for 4-5 more. I have a daughter who is about to start HS in August and a parent with a terminal illness so things are complicated. Getting old sucks.

You and I have had a lot of conversations about growing up in BR. We’re very close to the same age. My wife and I always thought we would stay here for another 15-20 years and then retire to southwest Florida. We’ve had discussions almost on a nightly basis for the past month and come this March, we will start looking for jobs in the Naples, FL area. I’m a bit scared and nervous about making a transition like this, but I feel the death of this city has shifted into a new gear. I can no longer turn a blind eye to the incompetence of the leadership in this city and state.

Edit: sorry to hear about your parents…getting old does suck…I lost my mom earlier this year.

so, can the mayor at least send a task force to clean up the litter, garbage, and busted tires and missing hubcaps along with cigarette butts that are prominent everywhere you look?

It's truly awful how little people care nowadays.

And the "leadership" is downright awful

Lincoln Dawson how long have you been here? You brought up tires on the side of road. A guy that ran for mayor had a deal with a company that had a tire shredder but the deal fell through because the mayor didn’t like where he was going to install the tire shredder so it fell through.

Hence the unemployment fraud. It is massive and widespread.

It’s been my experience that when you give something to someone without anything expected in return and then take it from them after an extended period of time, the recipient believes they are entitled to the item.

Now, pay attention. This is where things get violent. Sprinkle in a perpetual victim mindset, a lack of conflict resolution skills, easy access to weapons, some substance abuse, maybe a little mental health all on top of a lack of education, a fatherless home without discipline, and just the slightest bit of desperation and well…

The rest is history.

Now multiple that several times over. Welcome to Baton Rouge.

not too long, but long enough to notice that trash is everywhere in this city, and i am not just speaking of people either.

it's really an eyesore. the people here just seem to think that the roads are their trash can. i'd really like to see police start to enforce this with heavy fines. it would be great if the mayor could assign a task force to the city government and hold certain employees responsible for getting it done with a rinse and repeat effort. and not just one time or before the grass gets cut (whenever that is). not likely though because she doesn't even hold herself accountable for anything, especially crime.

certain parts of baton rouge are a complete shite hole and it starts and ends with her.

Lincoln she started a task force to have cops clean up the trash. It shouldn’t be their job. Baton Rouge isn’t a bad city just got really bad pockets that I would not go. South Baton Rouge is ok. Welcome to our city Lincoln

do you mean the physical trash on the streets? cleaned by the cops? or the trash element side of people?
