From WBRZ

quote:

WBRZ-TV sports reporter Matt Trent said he’s learned that inappropriate contact occurred with athletes. “Basically there were things going on with some open houses and visibility issues at games, coaches were told hey I want you to go here and do this and I want you to get these kids to an open house,” Trent said. While this punishment stems from numerous recruiting violations, Trent said that more violations could have occurred. “It’s not just recruiting it was other things. I had heard impermissible benefits, I had heard falsifying of documents for kids to have less of a financial burden to come to Catholic and play,” Trent said.

You believe the policy related to coaches being limited in communicating with middle school-aged athletes and their parents is necessary. Why is it necessary? Whose interests does it protect?

It protects the interests of fair competition among hundreds of high schools in Louisiana. You’re being disingenuous. Catholic coaches aren’t limited in communicating with student athletes in their zone.

Because EBR doesn’t assign Catholic a zone, for LHSAA purposes, they share the same zone as the public school whose zone they’re in. (McKinley’s???) Catholic can recruit these kids to their heart’s content.

However they’re limited in communicating with athletes in Brusly’s zone, Dutchtown’s zone, Tara’s zone, etc. Some from those zones will choose to go there, but Catholic can’t do as much to persuade them.

This did affect yalls reputation. It’s gonna be hard for y’all to get freshman and JV games for a while. Now in D1, three of the last four championships are vacated, yalls 2 and the one that John Curtis had.

You missed the point. Apply to CHS and ask about the athletic scholarships they offer. Or for that matter, just call the school. Maybe call the AD or a coach. See where that will get you.

You are correct that I have missed whatever point you are trying to make. I have no idea what you are talking about.

Form an athletic association that allows it

But an athletic association has no business telling anyone where they send kids to school.

I believe the kids can go where they want. They just can’t play athletics under that association

Honestly, I am not positive about that. Feel free to correct

kids can go anywhere they want, but they can’t be eligible for sports at any time wherever they want

Sounds like y’all want the LHSAA replaced by club athletics

That’s arbitrary to those in power at the time. The President of the LHSAA just had his son cut from the CHS team. That’s a conflict of interest.

it’s a conflict of interest if he goes easy on them because his son is there

Who says everyone agrees with every LHSAA rule? They have meetings all the time where principals and AD’s try to change or modify various rules/policies.

But in the meantime you have to follow the rules that are in place......or face consequences.

It’s not publicly available information and CHS or the LHSAA refuse to comment on the violations

Since when does CHS football have try outs?

Great question. Typically they didn’t. It’s a bigger enrollment now, and I choose to not be involved with Catholic. maybe there is more to it.

Plenty of kids transfer out of Catholic and go to other private schools in the area if they aren’t starting/playing. Which I’ve always viewed as soft, but, it is what it is.

Do people not understand this? It’s not hard.

It’s necessary because it allows all high schools to compete on a level field and it holds the entire “high school athletics” thing together.

What you are talking about is college recruiting essentially.

You don’t have to say the system is good or bad or right or wrong to see that’s it’s necessary.

Think about why there are different divisions of college athletics. That’s the exact same reason that there is a split in LA.

It’s all about trying to create some level playing fields for kids to be able to play. And having this system allows every school to partake instead of only rewarding the rich schools who can recruit and spend out the arse.

You don’t have to like it. But it’s necessary. Like someone else said. If you want to opt out. Opt out.

The reality is that the current system doesn’t cater to you and you don’t like it

Keep whining. Its a great look.
