Whoa man. That's only like 5 years from now.

Why do assholes like you think everyone is like this. It sounds like you’re wife’s dad is a physco

Tell that Boomer to pull himself up by his bootstraps. They like saying that.

What this tells me?
Burn up all anything you were thinking of leaving to your family, why bother.

The good Ol’ days....when family took care of each other. What were they thinking? The progressive me, me, me generation definitely has it figured out.
Because the silent generation and boomers didn’t put the greatest generation in nursing homes. They stopped whatever they were doing, to take care of their dying elders. Sure.

These are facts that cannot be denied.

I'd probably give it a shot too. Why the hell did I have kids otherwise?
If you have kids, would you really ask them to walk away from their lives/families to come and take care you? I’m not talking inf visiting ….I’m talking 24/7?
I wouldn’t do that to my boys.

You missed where I was asking if this was common or an outlier.

I'm eating a .357 slug the day I can't take care of myself any more.

My grandparents (greatest generation) invested, saved, and budgeted for end of life care. My parents and in-laws (boomers) are investing, saving, and budgeting for end of life care. My wife and I (millennials) are investing, saving, and budgeting. Not yet explicitly for end of life care but just for life in general.
Saving is a habit taught.

Dude. He will be dead in a few months. Tell your wife to man up and take care of him. This isn't that hard, you selfish a-hole.

Yes, it is. Especially if you have young/younger kids
It doesn’t sound like he’s asking for them to come over in the evenings, he’s asking for around the clock care from people that already have full day responsibilities. If he was simply asking not to be alone at night, you go over there every night and have dinner and someone stays with him. You do that until the end.
But that’s not what the OP is saying.

I have three kids under 10. If it was my wife, I would expect her to take care of her dad.

It is a heart wrenching situation and I’m sympathetic to these individuals I love but what is it with this generation to where they think their kids should walk away from their families rather than them bite the bullet and secure nursing or other care to take care of them?
I'm not old and wise, but I've lived long enough and seen enough out of folks to know that there are two kinds of people: those who take care of the people who took care of them, and those who don't.

People may very well be saying these daughters are selfish without ever having cared for someone before at this level.
If he’s walking, talking, feeding himself, etc, it’s not so bad. But often even if it’s not so bad at first, it can get to be terrible.
And if wife NEEDS to work for income reasons, who makes up the difference?
There I’m sure is a happy medium somewhere in here.

You’d be okay with her leaving for 3 months to go and live with him?

I’ve seen my parents help care of my grandmother for 6 years after she had a stroke that brought in early onset dementia. They saw her every day, but made sure her funds were arranged to pay for the PROFESSIONAL care she needed.
My parents are arranging their affairs to be able to afford the same professional care, and my brother and I and our families will see them every day. But we aren’t quitting our jobs, leaving our families, dropping what ever we are doing for an indefinite period of time.

If they wiped your arse when you couldn’t wipe it yourself, you owe it to them to take of them when they’re in their final days.
