What RB is going to step it up this year? This position group has a lot to prove.

LSU has a strong history of great backs that can break a game wide open with one broken tackle. Just recently we've had LF, DG and CEH.
Do we have an RB on the roster today that can break a game wide open with one or two broken tackles today? I don't see it.
Tyrion Davis-Price is the most consistent back but has not shown the ability to take over a game. TDP has average 32.2 yards per game and 4.4 yards per play. TDP is not a receiving threat. He only averaged 5.3 yard per game receiving.
I thought John Emery would be that RB that would follow behind CEH and continue the tradition of great LSU RBs. But that has not happened. He certainly seems to have the potential but he just can't get on the field. Whether it's injury, screwing up blocking assignments, or dropping easily catchable balls, injury and mistakes are keeping Emery off the field. Correct these issue and John can go from 7 plays a game to 15-20 which would be awesome. If Emery is getting 15-20 carries per game this season that is a clear sign the light bulb has turned on.
Then we have Tre Bradford. My only expectation from Bradford is using him as a third down back. He seems too slender to go between the tackles on a consistent basis on 1st and 2nd downs. I hope he's improved his pass catching and blocking skills because I can see him being used a lot on 3rd down and working him into space where he can be affective.
Then you have the highly touted new guys Armoni Goodwin and Corey Kiner. I hope they come in and blow us away. If these two young guys show out I would feel much better about this position group. But until we see them on the field it's really unknown.
I feel like at this point the RB group is the furthest behind but can make the greatest gains before the season opener. Just need some guys to step up and reach their potential.

Price will have a 1100+ yard season.

Goodwin might be the best back on the roster. But I like that TDP has slimmed up. That should benefit him

we really need goodwin or kiner to step up early.

Furthest behind who? We’ve got a very young group with Davis Price and Emery as true Sophs. I expect both to have great seasons

The development and performance of all the RB's has been disappointing. (Especially Emery) How much has been mediocre talent combined with mediocre OL and how much has been mediocre RB coaching?
The Tigers have been suffering at the traditionally LSU Strong Position ever since they massively whiffed on Travis Etienne. They (Faulk) can't afford to miss on the current Etienne that's about ready to make his college choice known. Jennings is still right down west on I-10 the last time I checked.......

I am excited to see what the freshmen can do. There is certainly opportunity there for one of them to make some noise in a few months.

Armoni Goodwin
Kids highlight videos are something. He has vision, speed, and toughness. If he can pick up the pass protections he will see a lot of PT.
They used Koy Moore out of the backfield Saturday. Same concepts as Brady used in 2019 with Jetts. Going to see some of that return in the fall. WR on a LB = win most of the time.

Hoping and praying Emery is putting in the work so that he can get enough opportunities to shine.

I think we are going to have to have a freshman make an amazing immediate impact. It has happened before, but they will need major help from the Oline, and based on what I saw in the spring game, that doesn't appear too likely. We can hope they jell together though.

I think TDP is going to have his best season yet for sure.
Goodwin will turn some heads as well. He was a big time pick up late in the recruiting cycle. He’ll be an impact player moving forward.

O hasn't really hidden his disappointment that the RB group hasn't been very good (outside of CEH) the last few years. He's practically begging for someone to become a feature back.
TDP reminds me a bit of Brossette to the extent he seems to be a solid player, but not necessarily a game breaker. If there is a big hole in front of him he'll get through it for a nice gain. If not, he doesn't really see the hole elsewhere.
You know the staff would LOVE to see Emery play like the 5 star recruit they thought he would be. So him not getting a ton of snaps even though there seemingly would be many available is worrisome. For whatever reason he just hasn't translated to the college game yet. That, in and of itself is worrisome because RB is probably the easiest position at which to make an impact early in your career.
Bradford is just really small and had big issues catching the ball.
IMO, the door is WIDE OPEN for one or both of the incoming freshman to get significant PT. I think O is quietly hoping one or both come in and look like a big time back right out of the gate. I don't think he is "sold" on any of the current RBs at the moment.

My main concern with the freshman running backs is for them to learn Peetz system quickly. Same reason we did not see much of Emery in '19: it took him time to learn what he needed to do.
Hopefully if Kiner and Goodwin are the answer, Peetz can quickly get them up to speed on their assignments.

Tight End is LSU's weakest position, no question about it. You have Kole Taylor and Nick Storz.
We don't really know anything about Emery at the moment since he's missed all of Spring recovering from shoulder surgery. TDP can be a feature back given the carries. He had a few good games last year and if he's slimmed up, that should help a lot with getting to the second level.

All imma say is that walk on kid ran hard af in that last game. Looked good to me.

1. We need the Ol to block better. If we don’t have great blocking you gotta go with a guy who can shed first contact. If you can open some running lanes you can get the home run threat in there.
2. Emery needs some touches. He definitely has the highest ceiling, but any mistake he ends up in the dog house. TDP drops passes too.

I really hope Emery turns the corner and reaches that level we know he can. What is good for us is usually someone steps up. Even in “down years” at RB, someone always shines and surprises us. Our new guys look good on film, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them won the job down the stretch

Goodwin will rise to at least #2 before the end of the year. Kid is freaking scary fast.

The 2 new Freshmen will be better than anyone we now have. People will be surprised.
