Griff isn’t as smart as he first seemed

That tells me he wants to see how those 2 do together so he can know if he can move on from Ball this Summer and feel safe about it.

We definitely have the guys on our roster that could fill out a solid starting unit.

Kira
NAW
BI
Zion
Hayes

If all of them reach their potential then that could be a championship team. Now the odds of that happening are close to zero, but it’s nice to know that for each starting spot we have a guy that might be able to fill it already here.

My personal opinion: they would love to keep Lonzo at the right but they recognize they cant just blindly promise to match whatever offer.

Lonzo is well liked, is young, is still getting better, and offers many positives. Even if NAW and Kira take off, they are affordable contracts. We will need depth for a championship run. Let all tyese guys grow together.

By the time Adams is done, Hayes should be worthy of starting (if not before). We should be sitting on a top 5 roster with youth to boot. This assumes steady progression and we do SOMETHING of worth with our war chest, whether it be trade for an all star or draft another all star in the making.

I am not sold on SVG. I dont blindly trust Griff. I do stand confident that we will be a top 4 team in the West by May of 2023. It is realistic for us to be the clear front runner at that time.

Yeah that makes sense. But if Ball wanted no part of NOLA I don't think Griff would've said what he said. I could be very wrong though. Doesn't mean we are for sure keeping him past this season. But it doesn't necessarily mean he's as good as gone.

The Jaxson news is also very encouraging

Agreed. He did not have to say anything. He volunteered the comment.

Griff on the kids.

He said after the New Year's break Jaxson

quote:
came back with a totally different mind set and he has attacked the weight room the last 6 weeks or so in a way that he hadn't. I think he's completely bought into the realization that he can play multiple positions and that he can guard virtually anybody. He knows what his strengths are and I think as he continues to learn how not to foul he'll continue to be on the court longer because offensively he's incredibly, incredibly gifted and I think you're seeing that night after night now.

On Kira

quote:
I think Kira Lewis is playing significantly more than we anticipated when we drafted him. I think we even said this about Jaxson last year, if he redshirted it would have been fine with us. Unfortunately there was no GLeague season really at the time that our season started for him to continue to get reps and Kira came into this with no Summer League, no GLeague, no Pre-Draft workouts. So for him to be as good as he is already in NBA games as a 19 year old kid is mind numbing. And like Jaxson he's among the very hardest workers on our team, he's incredibly diligent in the weight room, his attention to his player development workouts with Theresa Weatherspoon have been incredible. So I think you're seeing him grow and evolve rapidly, far more rapidly than we had any right to believe he would.

On NAW

quote:
Nickeil Alexander-Walker is somebody that we believe very strongly is a starter in this league. And when he's had consistent opportunities to play minutes I think he's shown that. I think he had a stretch of games where he was not particularly very good playing consistent minutes, but he's also shown incredible flashes of brilliance and we think as he grows and evolves as a player he's going to show more and more of those and less and less of the frustrating times.

Very encouraging regarding Hayes and Kira as they need to be committed to the weight room.

I would agree with everything except this. This is a straight up lie lol

NAW, Jax, and Zion haven’t played an entire NBA season. If we were at the end of a full season an NAW, Zion, and Jax were performing as they are today, would you not be satisfied?

Griffin admits he probably didn't give the coaches enough defensive versatility on the roster to start the season.

Griff says Lonzo has told the team 1-on-1 that he wants to be with the Pelicans.

I legit don’t doubt this. His dad and Klutch are driving the ship. He needs to sack up and tell them to GTF. The best thing Zo can do is hire CAA tomorrow.

If we re-sign Lonzo, we'll likely have four quality guards next season who could all start somewhere in the league: Lonzo, Hart, NAW, and Kira.

We really need to find a PF to backup Zion, or a guy who can play SF/PF. Maybe we can get one in the draft.

Assuming that we re-sign Lonzo and Hart, that means that (absent a big trade like Bradley Beal in the summer), we'll almost certainly be bringing back:

Zion
BI
Hart
Adams
NAW
Kira
Lonzo
Hayes

No one else is essential to bring back, though I think that Hernangomez on a minimum deal is worth it. That's 9 players. (I am currently assuming that Griff finds finds a way to dump Bledsoe this summer.)

But the point is that we have now developed a core going forward and can draft several players to develop. We aren't going to use all our draft picks, but I think that we should draft three guys and also bring in Didi. If we try to develop four players, there's a good chance that we'll hit on a couple.

And hitting on a couple more young talents is the key to sustaining a title run. Yes, we could trade Hayes/Kira/NAW in a blockbuster trade for someone like Beal, but then the cupboard is bare for the future.

tldr: We'll have minutes next season for young players, so we should draft three and bring in Didi and see if can find a couple of studs.

My biggest takeaway was Jaxson Hayes. Pretty much admitted he was not committed early on in the season and something changed after the post new year break and has completely bought in since then. Working hard in the weight room now. I wonder if he had a heart to heart with his father.

I think it's the girlfriend. Something like 90% of the great things and 90% of the idiotic things that men have done in this world were done because of a beautiful woman.

In any case, it's absolutely fantastic news. And you can see Jaxson's strength on the floor -- he's clearly stronger.

By his 2nd contract, I optimistically expect him to be a monster. Age alkne will help him both mentally and physically. He has God given athleticism and size that affords him an advantage over 95%+ of the NBA. He can score double digits just on put backs and lobs. If he develops his shot (which seems reasonable given his current form and Vinson's coaching), he can get close to 20 per, while still being very efficient doing it.

He and Zion, surrounded by 3 guys that can hit open 3s, will be more than the NBA can handle.

His girl is a dime... I missed where that was discussed here. I’ve always thought that was a pretty clear at least top 2-3 reason for his play lately.

Wasn’t his girlfriend rumored to be Lebron James side chick? If so no wonder she instilled Lebron work ethic into Hayes. However, like I said before, it’s mostly because he was searching up his name on social media and google and it fueled him up to wake up. His parents also were big influences because they were ex-pros, especially his dad who is a coach.
