I’m a high handicapper trying to get back into playing regularly. I am trying to figure out if new equipment or just time will help me get better.

I have a significant slice off the tee. Always have.

Should I invest in a driver that is setup to help with the slice, or try to figure out my swing for a long term solution?

I am looking at the Ping G410/425 SFT or Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo off the latest mygolfspy reviews.

Would hate to buy one of those for hundreds of dollars & then six months later regret it because I’ve figured out my swing.

I’m hoping I can buy one of those & they will be fine even if I figure stuff out. But I have no experience with this.

Any input would be appreciated.

A draw bias driver will help (are there any other type out there these days?), but if your slice is in the banana range, nothing but fixing the swing part will eliminate or reduce that.

I wouldn't sweat spending money on a driver and then fixing your swing later. All drivers work well with a good swing. Speed and swing plane changes are more likely to mess up a custom job than fixing a bad slice.

The ping at least can be set up to almost neutral so if you fix your path that driver should still work fine. If you start fighting a draw it's going to give you problems though.

Spend that $400 on a couple of lessons with a good pro

A lot of drivers made over the last decade are adjustable. You don't need a brand new one to turn it down and make it draw bias. And if it gets better, you can move it back to neutral. It also won't cost an arm and a leg.

I bought the Ping G410 max a few months ago. It took a few months of practice, but I’m hitting them straight now. Slice wasn’t my issue, I have a nasty hook with the long clubs. Concentrating on hitting “in” on the ball and keeping my hands forward helped.

Take a look at Tour Edge. Good draw based drivers. I use a Cobra airspeed that is also draw bias. It's non adjustable which is good for me because I will strip the screws adjusting it. I'm also thinking about trying the Ping in the near future.

Get the lst and move weight to heel. Lst will knock off more spin but won’t lock you in to the heel weighting should you ever fix your slice.

Also, throw a shaft in there that is a flex or two weaker and focus on smooth swings.

Drivers don’t fix slices. Lessons do.

I play a fade. And when your swing plane favors a fade, leaving the club face open would make for a nasty old slice. I took two lessons, received the above insight and worked on alignment and closing the face. The driver turned into my most trusted club in the bag. Now with anything it comes and goes, but I know exactly what I did wrong when I miss.
