shite, copious Natty cans and ramen noodle wrappers say differently. Half the time there’s a couple guys missing several articles of clothing running around in slide sandals (if shoes at all) trying to bum smigs. The frats I’ve seen are fricking Syria.

Yeah after living in a fraternity house my immune system is god level. It looked like a mansion one week a year during rush. It was squalid the rest of the time.

I don’t disagree but just can’t imagine this. You’re service industry so surely you take shots like I do. 2-3 tequilas amongst my wines is not unusual. And I go home and fall asleep in my pajamas wayyyyyy before vomiting or DYING would ever come into play.

Even back then I was never near death. They have to be drinking insane amounts!

If I had to guess, they told the pledge class to finish the handle. Poor kid probably wanted to impress people so he decided to drink the majority of it. I can’t imagine they expected each kid to finish a handle of jack (especially since no other kids had alcohol poisoning).
Simply weeding out the weak if you will? Probably get down-voted by Neanderthals who cant grasp concept here as they lay contradictive empathy to such a story.

"Poor kid lost his life to drinking. Such a bright future."

Poor decisions equate to poor consequences. Not every one can lead a promising life regardless of life status.

your experience must have sucked. I still keep in regular contact with about half my pledge class and am best friends to this day with several of them 15+years later.

I see your problem. You went to Ole Miss

I don't disagree with this. Ole Miss has turned into a douche magnet.

Btw a fourth of my pledge class has come out of the closet and is now gay... so most likely your pledge class was cooler than mine.

This. Coming from someone who can put down a lot of whiskey in one sitting (myself), theres no way this kid finished a handle of whiskey by himself. I even think a fifth in 2 hours would get an 18 year old pretty damn sick. Not dead, however.

The problem is drinking is part of it and it’s not just hazing but part of the appeal.

The drinking isn't the problem, even getting drunk isn't the problem. No one but maybe a seasoned alcoholic is going to just sit there and start pounding a handle for the pure enjoyment of it. If a kid is doing it, it's because they feel pressure (either internally, or externally) to do it. And THAT is the problem.

If you're doing anything but straight chugging hard liquor, your body is going to give you plenty of warning before you accidently off yourself on booze. Kid died doing something that probably tasted like straight arse to him the whole time.

How was this hazing? So a bunch of college guys get together and drink, one died of alcohol poisoning and all of the sudden the frat system is to blame? Part of the point of college is to find yourself and there’s tons of groups outside of fraternities to do that in which occasional drinking too much happens also. When I was in college I went to plenty of parties hosted by these groups this sort of thing could have happened in:

Rugby club
Soccer club
Bass fishing club
Baseball team
Baseball hosts
Waterpolo club
Cattlemen association
College Republicans

Etc. Probably hundreds of clubs people get together with others they like and occasionally do stupid college age kid shite together.

I was hazed and hazed back. NOT ONE SINGLE time did our hazing involve alcohol or drugs. Forcing or even encouraging someone to drink alcohol at those levels is NOT hazing it is criminal.

You can't be this fricking dense. You realize they just pulled those lines out to get you to shut up and keep running errands for them, right?

People generally figure that part out once t they're on the receiving end.

His family says two pledges told them he was forced to drink a handle of Jack Daniels whiskey that night. His family also heard he was blindfolded and ran into a tree.

And here lies the problem, I firmly believe that kids should not be forced to consume liquor in massive quantities like this. Liquor is a whole other beast compared to beer which can be easily thrown up and is almost impossible to kill yourself with. Another problem is that more and more of these boys are abusing pills that have a huge impact on your body's tolerance and ability to handle alcohol. When I was pledging I was never forced to chug liquor (only beer) and pills really hadnt become quite as mainstream yet. This was something we encountered more as I got older and it was something that needed to be taken under consideration. Even if they arent doing any pills, boys (because thats what they are at this point still) shouldnt be forced to drink all of these hard alcohols that can kill you.

We found the pussy GDI.

I’ve never understood this insult.

1. Most frat guys are soft and would get their arse kicked by most GDIs

2. What’s wrong with being independent? You mean the person does his own thing, wears his own style, makes his own friends and doesn’t have to obey and conform to codes determined by an organization? Sounds great

3. I’m only talking about my own experience at MSU where most GDIs were just the redneck baws. Your definition of GDI may be different. I had many friends on both sides but none were nerds or losers
