Just priced some 2x6x12's (treated) from Lowes and $20 ea!!! Looking at some 3/8" plywood too.... $38 a sheet! I bought this same plywood last year for $17 a sheet! Guess since the storms, everyone needs lumber and why not charge an arm and a leg for it!

Lumber prices are racist. I should get a discount.

It’s doubled in the past 3 months. Over $1,000 per thousand board feet right now. Absolute insanity.

Easy explanation. These lumber guys love crawfish, and the only way afford them is to increase lumber prices.

It's not Covid related per se. It is a culmination of insanely low interest rates (which means more building), the mills working at full speed (market dynamics/ too little capacity to create framing lumber), and the *invisible force/china* of the market buying up all available supply.

BTW, the guys that own tree farms (the suppliers of the wood we need) are getting all time low rates for their product. The only people making $ are the mills that process the wood.

If you had the $ to build mills in rural GA, SC, AL you could make a fricking killing these days.

Prices will drop when we start receiving Chinese imports.
The quality will be as poor as the bogus, contaminated drywall they sent.

lol it isn't because storms - construction activity has been insane and because of Amazon and online shopping, distribution in general - shipping costs are skyrocketing.

Have you checked out PVC prices lately?

Texans don't winterize their pools.

Edit: My contractor neighbor told me that the 2 x 4s he saw a Lowe's yesterday came from Sweden. Almost $8 ea.
