I bought the 2.0 thermals for next week since I have to be in the field a fair amount with work. Is the 2.0 suitable for a 20-40 temperature range? I was afraid if I bought the 3.0 I wouldn’t be able to ever use it when I go hunting. Also, what’s yalls opinion on them? I feel like I just paid a premium price for something I could have bought for a lot cheaper.

I use the Magellan brand from Academy. They give me good service. The shelves are probably empty now.

Yeah, I just bought what I could. I don’t have much natural insulation so I wanted to make sure I could be somewhat comfortable outside.

I wouldn’t beat yourself up over it. I’ve had some for a long time and they’re fine. Prob a little over priced, but they stay put and top or bottoms won’t ride up

I kids got the heavy weight UU this year to wear under their clothes duck hunting. They must work pretty good, the little shuts complained about being too warm, which is rare

I have a set and they are good for me for still type hunting. I tried using them in Montana when it was 30-40 degrees and I had to hike alot uphill and almost sweat to death. Was soaking wet. I switched to merino wool I buy from Amazon and have been much happier.

Which ones did you have? 2.0, 3.0, or 4.0?

Smart Wool is an amazing product. It lets you breathe yet keeps you warm.

Its the 3.0 I have. Thing about UA thermals is its not overly warm when you wear them til you start moving around. Now the sheepskin thermals? Wind doesnt penetrate them. I like mine. I need to gethe rtops. I just figure I have insulated jackets and such to keep my top warm. Its my legs I refuse to get cold. Cause then Im miserable. Im not a fan of cold. Give me 75-80F weather yr round and Im happy

The 1.0 is roughly the equivalent of military grade silk weight (maybe a little warmer) and the 2.0 is probably about the same as the waffle weave. Mrs. Midnight has a 1.0 shirt that is a perfect base down to 35 -40 or thereabouts.

Not knowing your other layers, I think the 2.0 will take you down to about 20 or lower, as long as you have fleece and outer wind/water layers. Now, their stuff is active, so it is not supposed to keep you cozy at rest - it expects you will be moving and active.

UA is good stuff, bulletproof - only caveat is the cold weather stuff - machine wash cold, line dry it/hang it to dry. The dryer will eat it. The rest of the stuff i.e. the hot weather/workout stuff? Lasts forever except the socks. I have stuff that's almost 20 years old from them.

Outer layers have to be fire retardant so it’s essentially cotton, I assume. So I’ll be fricked in anything wet but I can stay in my office with any precipitation. Mainly concerned about being miserable to go outside to check on projects we have.

Not necessarily - if they're issuing OSHA/CSB rated stuff, could be nomex/kevlar blend (like flight gloves).

If you can add a fleece on top of the 2.0, as long as you have something to take the wind, you should be fine down to 20, 25 or so for short trips outside.
