I don’t think anyone is suggesting that we “need” basketball. Some of us like basketball. Some of us like basketball in secret but pretend we haven’t watched it for years. Some of us don’t like it even though we comment on it constantly. But none of us truly need it.
Shut it down. No other facets of life do we pay money to watch assholes shoot a ball into hoops.

Pretty much this. I won't lose any sleep if it stays forever. I won't lose any sleep if the nba decides to let some teams forego playing the anthem and get right to the game.
Neither one affects my viewing experience of the game in any way.

I agree with Stan, never understood why the Anthem was so important to play before a stupid sporting event.
Play it before something important.
But why are NBA folks, coaches and former coaches such giant SJW pussies?
Is it the white guilt they feel for making their money off the sweat of the black man? If the NBA players are right and the NBA is like a Plantation, well who are the coaches? Fess up Stan! Repent for your evil past!

Yeah it’s kind of funny to see the pivot now that it’s actually happening

Not really surprising. Just another episode of typical TD hypocrisy

Gundy is correct. It's like a great song that gets played too much on the radio and you start getting tired of it.

I take no issue with that, nor anyone who feels the ritual isn't necessary.
That being said, the current custom is to play it, so the Mavs DID actively want the the song removed. They understood it's a hot button issue right now that would cause some uproar, but they felt so strongly that the anthem needed to go that they still did it.
I think it's reasonable for people to then want to know WHY it was so important and what their motives were.

I’m confused
Did the people who say they didn’t want the anthem then if people were going to kneel also now want it back?
I don’t believe I said anything like that, and certainly don’t think any of my fellow baws (McCraigbro, SDV, wild thang) ever said anything like that either

So you are comparing an example of your coach simply being bored with a pregame tradition to the current situation of nixing the anthem as a political statement and a big middle finger to our country? Pfft! Sure thing! Don't sit there and try to convince me this situation is even remotely similar to your coach's boredom with tradition.
I am. This was a guy who absolutely loved his country and openly talked about that to us, and about why his time in Vietnam made him appreciate this country more.
When I go to Braves games, I'd be willing to bet that close to half the people in my vicinity are either looking at their phone, talking to someone, making a quick dash to the bathroom/concessions, not really paying attention, etc to the national anthem. Just because someone doesn't really care to fully engage in singing that song before a sporting event, has absolutely nothing to do with their love of this country.
It's my opinion that true patriotism is challenging your country to be a better version of itself. It has nothing to do with singing a song or wearing a flag pin on the lapel of a suit for example, which sprung up everywhere after 9/11.
Most people don't realize the version of the song that's played ends in a question mark. The song is actually much longer, but the national anthem as we know it is only the first part. It's up to interpretation as to what that means, but here's a very short read on what Scott Key may have meant, which I believe to be a call to continue questioning if we're really living up to the ideals of liberty and justice for all.

Yea, I have no idea what that dumbass is talking about either. Not surprising though. Most of these sky screamers on the MSB/Pels Talk are low IQ.

People can be persuaded that the anthem isn't really necessary for sporting events.
But that's a different argument than removing it in a backdoor attempt to appease extremists.
