Grass Recommendations

I live in Uptown New Orleans have have about an 8’x30’ strip of grass between my patio and landscaping that gets a good amount of sunlight but not all at one time. Not a ton of shade trees except for a sugarberry in my neighbors yard. It was St. Aug when we moved in but I killed that by accident between overwatering (via irrigation system), dogs peeing, and in my ignorance supplementing nitrogen fertilizer as it started to die.
As winter set in I ripped up the remaining St. Aug and planted some perennial rye. It took fairly well, and I supplemented annual rye in problem areas. It never was completely lush and green but it worked fine.
I humbly come to the board for advice. As stated I have two larger dogs. One was raised in AZ and pees on the rocks in our landscaping, the other however pees like a fire hydrant in the grass.
What species should I consider planting this spring or before? I would like something a little softer like Bermuda but I’ve heard it’s temperamental with the dogs. Assuming sod over seeds and is there anything I can do ahead of time to help?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post. Cheers!

I would not recommend bermuda to anybody. I've been growing it for 25 years. It's just too much work to keep it weed free. There are some zoysias that are really nice. Do well in sun or shade. Geo or Zeon or maybe even Palisades. I'm not sure about any of these plants ability to withstand lots of urine in concentrated areas though.

I'm not an expert but from my research I will be sodding my back yard with Zeon Zoysia as soon as my pool is finished. Expensive but looks so good and has a lot of good qualities.

Being a urinal and not a lawn I would suggest permeable artificial turf laid on a bed of gravel with edge drain to low end and French drain under cement.

If you have dogs peeing on that small of a strip you’re going to struggle. I’d go artificial grass like the above poster recommended.

Bermuda is one of the best things you can grow. Not common or Tex turf 10 but tif19 or tif sport. St Aug, centipede, or zoysia will not tolerate dogs. Bermuda is the only thing that will. Properly manicured tif will crowd out weeds plus it’s herbicide tolerant allowing you to nuke shite.
