Was 2019 LSU Offense schematically the best ever?

Or was it more about our athletes winning a ton of 50/50 balls and Joe trusting his receivers and throwing them open. I don't think the Xs and Os had so much to do with why the offense was so unstoppable.
Chase and Jefferson made dozens of contested catches 90% of CFB wrs would not. Its not like the scheme had guys running wide open every play or something.

It was a perfect storm of talent, coaching, swagger, and guys with chips on their shoulder.

It was Joe Burrows decision making and heart, along with the fact that Justin Jefferson is one of the absolute best receivers I’ve ever seen at coming back to the football. We also had a good blocker in Moss who could also catch a pass. The most underrated piece of that entire offense however was Clyde. It cannot be stated enough how his big play ability and 3rd down capability changed the dynamics of that offense entirely.

That scheme doesn’t win anything with Etling at QB, Brosette at RB, and Kadron Boone and John Diarse at WR. Those guys were all good football players, but they did not have the talent to make the scheme special.

Yes the frick it did. Joe even said himself when he got the playbook about how he was excited about the route and offensive concepts they would run.
You also had a college version of Pro in his prime Peyton knowing coverages and what to audible too. It was as much the scheme as it was the players.
And the swag. All the swag ever that these dudes knew they're not getting stopped.

Honestly, IMO, I think you just had a team full of Alpha Males that were willing to put their egos aside and play great team ball. Pushing each other with an underdog mentality. Feeling like they've all been looked over for too long. Now, mix that with a new scheme and fresh ideas for the talented players....WE COMIN

I think it's relative. I can definitely see that some 3 yards and a cloud of dust coaches like Miles would not have had last year's output even with the same talent.

They ran a very simple offense. They just isolated talent and got them the ball. Half of Chase’s TDs were either jump balls or rub routes. Nothing very sophisticated there. And Joe Brady? Well he’s in the NFL without a big talent advantage, and....

The X’s and O’s put our players in position to be successful. The players did the rest.
LSU wasn’t doing anything groundbreaking schematically last year. They found ways to exploit opponents’ weaknesses, sure, but there weren’t many gimmicks. When you have a #1 pick NFL QB, 3 NFL WRs, an NFL RB, and 3 (possibly 4) NFL offensive lineman on the field, you don’t need a lot of gimmicks. You just put them in a position to do what they do best. And that’s what the staff did.
While we had all of those guys in 2018, nearly all of them were first time starters that year. That’s not to say the schematic changes from 2018-2019 didn’t matter - the RPO and the shift to less protection/more passing options made a huge difference. But I don’t think we would have seen the same level of success in 2018 even if we had been running the exact same offense.

There was no team more comfortable throwing over the middle of the field than LSU. For most college teams, they're more comfortable giving their QBs sideline throws and quick routes like slants and flat routes. With what we did, the routes took more time to develop.
I think combined with the confidence of Joey and the NFL talent around him, including Brady was a match made in heaven.

Why do people get on here and downplay scheme, game planning and trying to out x and o the opposition? When 2 teams are close in talent, the aforementioned is the deciding factor the majority of the time. Players sometimes, in spite of all other factors, do just make plays to win games.
Good coaching and equal talent won’t allow for players to be wide open on every play but well designed and timed plays do just that.
It takes both coaching and talent to be a championship team. Coaches scheme and game plan. Players execute those.

The 2019 LSU Offense was the NCAA's version of what the Chiefs have done over the last year and a half. No matter what happened in the game, the offense was going to score and win it for you.

Schematically yes it’s Probly the best design the colllege level has seen. Remember this offense was derived from the top passing game in NFL history along with other parts in the run game from that same offense. There’s a reason those same players didn’t put up half the production the season before. That’s not to downplay the players, they were a special group but the biggest difference was the scheme.
