ESPN thinks so having him rated as number 54 on their list of 100 best players in the NBA this year. Thoughts? Zion is at 19 which might be generous at this point, do not have ESPN plus so not sure where the other pelasons are ranked.

I posted this in the other thread, on this board I’m probably looked at as a Lonzo fan, but I don’t know that I’m as high on him as his Twitter fans or ESPN.

To be fair though, I haven’t really thought about where I would rank him in terms of NBA players, but 54 seems high.

His ranking has caused the most controversy on the internets from what I've seen.

I'd have him much much lower. They have Zach Lavine behind him which is pretty wild.

Hopefully ESPN is better judge of talent than me, and can project something I just don’t see.

I feel like it’s hard to rank players who fill different roles against each other, which is why I never liked people ranking Draymond so high. Is he a great 3rd best player on a team? Sure, at his peak he was probably one of the best. But is that more valuable than being the 13th best number 1 option in the NBA?

ETA: I feel like Lonzo is one of the better role players in the NBA, because he does a lot of the little things that a team needs, and doesn’t need to take 15+ shots a game to affect the game in a positive way.

His abilities did not match his reputation when he got here and it looks like his reputation is still exceeding the actual Lonzo. He needs to improve his defense and add some sort of lane scoring ability, even if it's just a floater. If he can do that then maybe he'd be in the ball park of his reputation.

Not that i’m a Demar Derozan fan but on what planet is Lonzo 54 and he’s 82?

I initially said to myself, well, let me see the list because maybe that’s right, he’s better than a lot o detractors give him credit for.

Looked at the list...

Yeah, Lonzo is about 15-20 players too high on that list at a minimum(frankly it’s just a lazy and bad list overall that feels like they put no work into). And I don’t hate Lonzo, but a half season sample size that was front loaded and backloaded with poor play does not put you over Tobias Harris, Gallo, Covington, Dragic, Herro, Bogdan, Serge, Eric Bledsoe, D’Angelo Russell, Adams, Harrell, Aaron Gordon to name just a few.

I mean the list is damn long of players he shouldn’t be in front of until he not only improves on things like his defense, but shows consistency in the cherry picked sample size ESPN(and some Pels fans) used to justify him.

Of course the list as a whole is a mess. People know I think highly of Christian Wood, but what fricking insanity do you put Lamarcus Aldridge, a still 19 and 8 player with very good defense, shooting 50% and 39% from three, at 95 while guys like Wood and Lonzo are 40 spots above them? Jamal Murray above Bradley Beal, Kyrie Irving, Karl Anthony Towns, Rudy Golbert and Brandon Ingram. Just, no

He’s over all of them.

It’s a terrible list.

Like most of the time these things don’t do much for me but the list is actually offensive to my mental health lol. It’s really bad and ESPN should be ashamed

List must be based on potential and ceiling.

It is supposed to be a prediction of performance in the upcoming season.

It’s supposedly about this season. So not ceiling or anything. It’s a fricking mess that is basically a vessel for hot takes and dumb speculation.

If he averages 14-15ppg, 8+ assists, 5 rebounds, and plays elite defense.. then it could happen. I don’t think it’s a stretch if he improves in a couple of areas. It’s his first full offseason without injuries. I’ll try to be positive especially before a game is ever played this year.

Are they missing a “1” in front of 54?

I would have believed 540, but not 54. He is, and always will be, overrated. His average play gets mixed in with a few flashy plays and everyone remembers the highlight, not the two turnovers he had before it.

Hoping there are a few GMs that believe that as well and are willing to trade similar value for him.

I really think the Knicks are the only team who'll give him a look, which is kinda perfect really.

Does any other team need a "point guard" right now?
