Blue,
I think the point is that these boards are anonymous, so what is the point of even trying to regulate or fool with them. You called it "cowardly" to pose as a booster of another school to try to screw with that school. My response is so what if it's cowardly, that doesn't affect the outcome of someone doing that. Do you think Bama fans would not, if given the opportunity, pose as Vols to get UT in trouble? When it happens, we can label those fans cowards if we want, but what then? Will anyone even know it was Bama fans posing as Vols? It is absolutely ridiculous for the NCAA to even attempt to micromanage communication between citizens in this regard. The ways that these "rules" could be manipulated are so vast that I can't even begin to list them.

Is this the best system? I don't know, but it's the one by which all of our favorite schools must abide, and have agreed to abide by. All I can tell you is that, in this case, the NCAA's primary mission is to protect the kids, not the fans or the universities they support.

Think of it as a matter of perspective. Try not to be a fan for just a second. Like I said earlier, imagine your not a fan, but a parent of a 5-star recruit in - for the sake of example - Alaska. The only people you want influencing your son or daughter are those who have their best interests at heart. Namely, family, friends, teachers, coaches, etc. Not from crazed fans from Fl, CA, OH, LA, TX, etc. The vast majority of those fans have only one interest at heart here - their school to win at any cost.

Being that parent in Alaska, you'd be pretty pissed to find your son or daughter being convinced to go to any school by people you don't even know, and probably have no vested interest in you child's future and well being.

Most of these types of parents just want crazed college fans to stay far away from their kids, and they don't care which college gets sanctioned to keep that from happening. Who am I to say these parents are in the wrong? That's pretty much the stance of the NCAA also, in this case. Again, their main mission, in this case, is to PROTECT the kids, not the fans or the universities.

Is it fair? Doesn't matter. PROTECT the kids, not the fans or the universities, in this situation.

Is it right? I have a hard time saying it's not when I look at it from the standpoint of a parent and not a fan.

If you think I am evaluating this as a fan then you don't understand what I'm saying, so let me clear this up:

Contacting recruits via any medium regarding where they attend school is stupid unless that person is your personal friend or family member, or unless you are a college coach.

If you contact a kid through his facebook or myspace page you are a freak who needs to be dragged into the street and whipped.

If I had a kid who was being recruited, I would want him left alone by everyone except those just listed.

My point is that trying to regulate such stupid activity is a pointless exercise that the unscrupulous among us can use to hurt our hated rivals. To say that you will attempt to regulate or affect anonymous internet postings demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of how modern society communicates.

I will guarantee you that whoever drafted this rule is a guy who has his assistant print out his e-mails and read them to him. He then hand-writes responses that his assistant sends out as e-mails.
