Joel is hosting, I will try to relisten when I get a minute and recap

They were very deliberate and took their time. From the time they let go of Gentry to when they made their first call it was about a month. They spent that time looking and researching candidates.

What settled them on Stan was no matter what happens with Salary Cap, free agents, trades, they felt he offered the most flexibility in the short and long term.

Defense was a big factor, in both personal and scheme. Holding the players accountable on that side of the ball, and getting the players that pay attention to those details on that side of the ball.

With a young roster like ours, its not enough to be driven and to pay attention to the details, you have to get through to them as to the why.

Talking about his time in Cleveland, blah blah blah. Sounds like he would have rathered Lebron not go back as it changed everything they had planned. He would prefer a young group that grows together.

Stan and his wife reminded him of Griff and his wife, and they both are at a point where they just want to grow a basketball team the right way, a family, and they both are like minded about that.

No matter how much you can hate Stan on the court, he's someone you will love off the court.

A real area of focus on the roster this year will be on the defensive end, looking for players with an edge, toughness and grit. Anytime anywhere under any conditions we need to compete, and we will look for those types of players.

The one thing we have on the roster is a pretty versatile group, we have a lineup that can play small and fast or a lineup that can play big, on the perimeter or in the paint. Some of the players struggled with the read/react on offense. Sounds like we will simplify the offense.

He also talked about the offense being more structured this year. That last year’s offense was a master class with all of the read/react stuff and maybe was too much for the young guys.

He also said the locker room was incredibly quiet outside Redick and they need veteran leadership. Said BI wants to be a more vocal leader.

That being said, no way they let Redick go.

He’s a great prospect and exactly what Griff is talking about. In my opinion one of the 2-3 most underrated guys in this draft.

I have no idea who does the profiles for NBADraft.net, but this was in Green's profile:

quote:

Pelicans would be a great fit to provide an immediate impact on defense with little to no pressure to put up a lot of points with the likes of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram leading the way

Excuse my ignorance, but what is it specifically that prevents Ingram from doing so? I feel like this isn't the first time I've seen this quote. Is it simply that he felt it wasn't his place because he was new to the team...or that he felt that was Jrue's role and didn't want to ruffle any feathers?

I'd be leaning more to its not really his style. BI is an introvert by nature

I don't know.
Griff actually said he left the bubble with that as his main focus of getting better with, and my initial thought was how the hell do you get better at that in the offseason? You're either a vocal leader or you aren't.

Improving leadership is a skill like anything else. Whenever the team is together he'll speak up more and be more demonstrative, for example. Of which there are many.

It's really not that hard to comprehend

I’m pretty sure part of the issue is “Jrue’s team” and a bunch of new pieces coming in last season. This season should be different.

I can't imagine Jrue wanting to have his own team.

Unfortunately that was last season’s message and we saw how that went.

But after all is said and done, isn't Basketball a team game?

They aren’t mutually exclusive. They can still play ball and still have reservations especially when high profile veterans are on the team. Ball, Ingram, and Hart came from a team where they couldn’t say a thing with LBJ over their shadows and rookies don’t typically come in and jump into that leadership role.

These things should be different as those young guys have established their roles on the team as well as the comfort level with each other going into the year should help the cause.
