got some video of Eddie at Centenary Oyster House partying with the Cush brothers from back in the day, it's a shame I can't show it to anyone. His true fans would love it!
Seriously, I won't show anyone.

Died in the same hospital that Randy Rhoads was born in, St John’s in Santa Monica. That according to Randy’s sister.

I use 5150 all the time. Saw them on 1984, 5150, first row at UNO for OU812. Last tory I caught them in Biloxi for the frick tour.

Sat in the den at the Bertinelli's house in high school and watched Eddie play guitar for a bunch of us for a couple of hours. Absolutely incredible experience for a 16 year old Van Halen freak at the time. Valerie's brother Pat was a football teammate of ours and he invited a bunch of us to his house when Eddie and Valerie were staying. What a memory that was.
Now that's a cool story. I had no idea of his ties to Shreveport.

Seen VH a couple years ago with DLR and without EV, the show wouldn’t have been worth it.

such a downer
VH was unapologetic, in your face, kick arse rock.
America could use that kind of spirit now.

That is a lot of good musicians who died this year. RIP EVH.

Is posted this on the ot thread. I just so happened to buy an EVH 212 cabinet today. Easily in my top 3 influences to pick up the guitar.

Saw 5150 in Biloxi. Wish I'd have been able to see them with Dave. Like Van Halen II days.
Saw that same show in '86 (Sammy) and also saw the '84 (DLR) show in Biloxi. The '84 show was one of the most amazing events I have ever attended--the atmosphere that night was electric.

I saw him play in Dallas. It was the 99th show, 3rd in Dallas, of the U.S. leg of the 1984 tour. I wasn’t a Van Halen fan before the show. The show opened with Unchained. I was a life-long fan 10 seconds into the opening guitar riff. The pure power of the original lineup live was unreal.

Lost in a lot of the drama and chaos that surrounded the various iterations of the band is the bare fact that at 17 years of age, young Edward Lodewijk Van Halen went about the task of changing everyone's idea of what was possible on the electric guitar, just 2 years removed from Jimi Hendrix's death.
Yes, he was in the shadow - initially - of brits like Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton and others, but by the end of the 1970s, EVH was the one kid, particularly American kids, looked to as Guitar God #1.
An incredible talent, however much of an a-hole he was to bandmates. RIP.

Guitar God #1.
IMO this is where Eddie should be ranked for multitude of reasons; playing ability and innovation with regards to pick-ups and guitar building among other things.

Got up today and
Tried to imagine a tribute concert, then thought “Who the frick is pulling that off?”.
Some trivia: The heart of the Cradle track is Eddie playing a flanged Wurlitzer electric piano through a Marshall. You can really hear it in the breakdown when he takes some of the distortion off.
AND THE CRADLE WILL ROCK

Although VH had PLENTY of great songs/hits, I think one of their songs clearly stands out from the rest, and imo is one of the best rock songs ever.
"I'll wait". This song is perfection to me. Every second, from the opening buildup that takes 1-2 minutes, to the first 2 verses, the instrumental, the final verse and the fade out. I like Sammy Hagar. But there is no way in hell he can sing this song the way DLR did. They had much bigger hits, but to me this song is far and away their best. And, as most memorable songs do, it related to me on a personal level when I was a teenager at the time.

Dave was a showman. He understood how to entertain an audience....and he lived the life of a rock front man.....the whole band did. However it was Hagar that introduced discipline to EVH,AVH,& Anthony and they made trailer loads of money with 5150 and OU812.
