***Tulane Football's 4th & 5th 2010 Commitments***
Tulane gains commits from Catholic-New Iberia QB Taylor Bullock, Texas WR Brent Comardelle - Times-Picayune
- Bullock projects as a full qualifier academically with a 24 on the ACT and a 3.4 grade-point-average.
- Bullock was a first-team All-District 6-3A selection at quarterback as a junior, who participated in the Tulane High School Football Camp held at St. Thomas More in Lafayette on June 18.
- “The kid has got a cannon for an arm. He’s got everything you need to be successful. He’s 6-2, 210, he runs 4.5 in the 40. What’s good about Taylor is that can do both (run and pass). He can follow his reads and run it, but his strength definitely is his passing. We do a lot of stuff with him like Florida does with (Tim) Tebow. (Bullock) ran for 10 touchdowns last year, a lot of it on quarterback keeps and counters around the goal line. He’s fast, but he’s got a lot of power. He’s not afraid to hit people.’’[Catholic Coach Craig Brodie said.]
- Comardelle, 6-feet, 180 pounds, with 4.47 speed in the 40, took a week to finalize his selection after receiving the Wave’s scholarship offer on June 22. That was two days after he participated in the Tulane High School Football Camp conducted at the school’s uptown Westfeldt Practice Facility.
- Tulane was the first and only school that has offered Comardelle, he said, but Rice, TCU, SMU and Baylor were among those expressing strongest interest from the 40 programs to contact him. Tulane coaches project him as a receiver capable of playing in the slot or outside.
- Comardelle is fully qualified academically with a 3.5 grade-point-average and a 1,400 on the SAT, a test he plans on retaking.
- In addition to his 40 speed and a 100-meter time of 10.9 seconds, Comardelle also boasts a vertical jump of 34 inches to go with a bench press of 255 pounds and a squat of 355. Clear Creek competes in Class 5A, Texas’ highest classification.

- Catholic of New Iberia quarterback Taylor Bullock...Bullock (6-2, 210) will start at Tulane as a quarterback despite playing both under center and as a defensive back in high school.
- Also recruited by ULL, ULM, LA Tech, Rice and SMU. All four state schools mentioned offered scholarships.
- Texas prep wide receiver Brent Comardelle...Comardelle (6-0, 180) out of Clear Creek High School in League City, TX, has been timed under 4.5 in the forty. According to Rivals.com, he bench presses 255 pounds, squats 335 pounds and has a 34 inch vertical.
- Tulane was the only known school to offer Comardelle, who was also looked at by Baylor, Boise State, Colorado, Nebraska, Rice, Stanford and TCU.

Of course, like...
- Inheriting a football team that just went 12-0 with the best surge of national momentum in 25 years.
Scelfo sucked from year one. His assistant, Trooper Taylor, almost put that program on probation. His awful personality and dull "coach talk" aliented fans. He benched proven upper classmen to play his own recruits.
What is really amazing that he is the brother of a great guy and coach (Frank Scelfo). I wish Frank all the success in the world. I hope Chris has to get a real 9-5 job.

Great Job Brent Comardelle...
He is a home grown boy who had to relocated due to his parent's job - I think he is one great WR and congrats to Tulane for noticing that and being quick with their offer. I got a feeling he is gonna give LSU some problems....

Like undergoing a review that almost caused the team to cease to exist and set recruiting back at least a year, and going through Katrina which set us back AT LEAST two recruiting classes...

Katrina is a fair point, but the review was secret until after signing day and got slapped down on June 10 so I'm not sure it did that much damage.
Plus Scelfo never had a winning conference record. That's inexcusable. I was glad to see him go.

Baton Rouge running back Jamar Thomas commits to Tulane - Times-Picayune
- Thomas, 5-feet-11, 195 pounds, with 4.6 speed in the 40, is the Green Wave's eighth commitment for the class of 2010 and the sixth in-state player to choose Tulane.
- Thomas was being recruited by USM and Texas A&M and had an official offer from ULM.
Baton Rouge running back Jamar Thomas commits to Tulane - Times-Picayune
- Thomas, Tulane’s sixth in-state commitment, was recruited by assistant coaches Greg Davis Jr. and Greg Jackson and projects as a full academic qualifier.
- “Tulane always was one of the places I was interested in,’’ said Thomas, a two-time All-District 8-2A selection at running back for U-High, LSU’s on-campus laboratory school.
- Thomas, 5-feet-11, 190 pounds, has 4.5 speed in the 40 and is preparing for his third season as a starting running back for the Cubs. U-High finished 7-4 in 2008 after advancing to the second round of the state playoffs as District 8-2A runner-up. Thomas first broke into the lineup midway through his freshman year as a cornerback who also saw spot duty at running back.
- A versatile and multi-skilled performer, who combines speed and power, Thomas rushed for approximately 650 and 900-plus yards the past two seasons and led the Cubs with 32 receptions in 2008, U-High Coach Johnny Shoptaugh said.
- Thomas also had an official offer from ULM and was being recruited by SMU, USM, Texas A&M, Minnesota, ULL, Arkansas State, Central Arkansas and SLU. He made unofficial visits to SMU and Texas A&M and participated in SMU’s football camp. Thomas also participated in the Tulane High School Football Camp staged at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge on June 18. Tulane’s official offer came two days later.
- “When he runs, he reminds me of (former LSU and Indianapolis Colts No. 1 draft pick) Joseph Addai,’’ Shoptaugh said. “He’s not a dancer. He’s a one-cut back. He’s a complete football player in that he’s not only a great runner, he also is an outstanding receiver. He runs good routes, He catches the ball well. He’s a good blocker.
...Tulane coaches project Thomas as a running back.
- Thomas also has started three years in basketball as a shooting guard and earned first-team All-District honors twice. In track, he was a member of U-High’s state championship-winning 1,600-meter relay team. He bench presses 340 pounds, squats 550, has a vertical leap of 36 inches and has gone 10 feet, 4 inches in the standing broad jump.

I'm more excited about the possibility of Tulane being 2-0 (Tulsa, BYU) entering that game.
I know we've gone round and round, but it's pretty tough for any fan to be concerned about losing to the one D1AA opponent on the schedule.
App. St./Mich. & ULM/Bama notwithstanding.

Now c'mon, I'm hopeful - not stupid.
The Tulsa and BYU games (each home games) will serve as clear barometers as to whether Coach Toledo's recent efforts have paid off.
