They did taze him and it wasn't effective, probably because the dude was full of drugs and didn't feel shite. And he admitted to having a knife...which was found on the floor by the driver's seat, right next to where he opened the door before he was shot. Even if they have him outnumbered, the cops aren't going to let the criminal get his own weapon and injure/kill one of their own before they act.

When you have a guy who you have tasered and failed to restrain, and who you know before even going on site has multiple felony warrants out on him, you don’t frick around.
He was going for a knife, which was dangerous enough, but he could have also been going for a gun.

In a situation of life and death to law enforcement, military, or anyone else for that matter, you shoot to eliminate the danger. Don't think bullet counting is necessary.

You have no clue of the dangers cops go through dealing with violent suspects.
