Large brown spot in yard - Looks to be spreading

Can anybody give some recommendations on clearing up this brown spot in my front yard? It seems like it may be spreading. I know I have some spurge in this area that I’m spot treating with MSM Turf, but this area was like this before I began that treatment.
Should I just till the entire area and lay some fresh sod down? Is it too late in the year to do that? Wondering if I should just wait till Summer is over and start over? Any help is appreciated, sorry if the pictures suck.

Probably insects. Seems to be going around. mine got smashed about a month ago and it’s slowly coming back after insecticide and peat moss

I had the same thing happen in my st aug yard a few weeks back. I treated for webworms, but it did nothing. Followed up with a fungicide and it stopped the spread immediately. Go buy Scotts Disease X and put it down on that spot and around that spot incase its further than you think.

Centipede. Touched up some spots with Bermuda seeds earlier in the year.

The grass is there and it is just dead so I doubt it is sod webworms. You didn't go too heavy with the herbicide or have a neighbor try to "help" you get rid of the weeds?

Centipede sucks - prolly sod web worms - when you see white moths everywhere each year, go ahead and spread some granular insecticide / might have to resod if you want immediate fix

Man, looks like your yard and my yard are cousins. I've got a brown patch in both front and back that keeps growing quickly. Planning on putting down some insecticide and fungicide and seeing what that does.

Looks like you may have a fungus called Brown Patch. I have had this and it spreads quickly. The outer edge of the area is where the fungus is currently active. With our high humidity, the grass stays wet at night which can cause this to spread.
Link to the LSU AgCenter with info on the Fungus. I have had great success with spraying fungicide on the area. You may have to do this each year, as the fungus never really goes away.
Attack it quickly or you will regret it. If the damage is too bad, you may need to re-sod the area. If the area tends to hold water, I recommend fixing the drainage issue before laying new sod (make sure you have control of the fungus before re-sodding).

I have a hard time believing that that is fungus damage, that doesn't seem right for this time of the year.
Don't spread the Disease X yet. Do a soap test for sod webworms. Put some dish soap in a big cup of water, and dump it in the affected area. See if you see any worms pop up.

It's not brown patch. What mix rate did you use with the MSM?

Will hold off on the Disease X for now. Up until that rain a couple weeks ago I was watering at 6:00 am and 6:00 pm for 10-15 mins. Haven’t set everything back up since all of that rain we got a couple weeks back. I live in Prairieville and thinking back, this started about the time I was watering/all the rain came through.
As far as the MSM, I mixed .1/1 gallon. It looks like it’s killing the spurge and not really affecting the grass negatively.
And will def do the worm test. Thanks for all the help.

Don't water every day and don't water at 6pm. Water 3 days a week starting at about 430am depending on how many zones you have. Also, water for 20 minutes for pop up sprinklers and 30 minutes for rotary sprinklers. There is a possibility that it was too much water and drowned the grass if you were watering twice a day, every day and you got rainfall.

Very much a possibility. My neighbor even mentioned that. What do I do now? Just wait? Would re-seeding, etc help at this point?

I mentioned this in another thread. Mark the very outer edge with a lawn flag to see if the spot grows. Don’t seed now. It’s too hot. At this point just monitor the situation.

Most definitely sod webworms. Good news is they are pretty easy to treat, but if you don't do it pretty soon you are going to lose more turf every day. Just went through this.

Day 1 sprayed Talstar via a yard sprayer hooked to hose to cover large area. You can buy Talstar at peststop on O’Neal lane in BR or online. Day 5 hit the yard with broadcast triazicide that you can buy in bag at Walmart for about $15. Haven’t seen a moth since. The Talstar is a bit expensive but works like a charm.
