New Balance has a 5" running short with pockets that are light. They have a liner but I cut them out of mine.

Probably the Accelerate 5” short. Those are super comfy and one of my preferred running shorts. Also retail for only $30 but are routinely on sale or BOGO at the NB outlet. They make a 2 in 1 version with a boxer brief liner too.

I'm usually one to care about men's fashion and good quality clothing, but gym shorts is one article of clothing that I will always go cheap on. They all feel the same to me.
