Hey buckeye...the best you can do is put a quote from a throwaway journal from 2005? Weak...

Why not equip the helmets like a sandblasting hood? Surely the technology is available to have a non bulky supplied air underneath.

quote:They picked LSU because we are the hot team right now coming off the championship. Every other team is also going to be implementing some variation of this face shield. So don't make this sound like it is specifically an LSU issue when it is impacting all teams at both the college and pro level.
And USA today. Sporting News, and 24/7 have published negative articles on the LSU face shields.
Of course the players don't want to wear this. I posted in another thread that I thought wearing a regular visor sucked because of how hot it made the helmet. Extending it will just make it worse. Everyone agrees with you there. But precautions have to be made if football is to be played, and suggesting a sue-happy response isn't helping anyone get closer to finding the answer.
Also, you might want to find a better source. A 15 year old study that included 3 people (a 74-year-old woman, a 63-year-old man, and an 80-year-old man) just isn't it bud.

LSU football player on COVID face shield: 'I can't F'n breathe under this thing
I dont get the name calling on message boards. It seems unnecessarily rude on a topic where reasonable minds can differ.
I can see how having a shield on makes it hotter and harder to breathe. Covid makes it hard to breathe for some too. Some players want the shields. Some are threatening not to play without even more safety precautions.
I wish it were as simple as letting the players choose but the shields are not just to protect the player wearing them, but the other players as well.
If a young man told me he wants to play football, isn't worried about the virus at his age and doesn't want to wear a shield - I get that. If a young man told me he was afraid of catching the virus for the fear of his health or passing it to vulnerable family members - I get that.
I think those in charge of young athletes have to err on the side of health and I think the risk of spreading covid probably outweighs the slight risk of some increased chance of heat stroke.

Journal of Neuropathology & Experimental Neurology is now a throw-away journal? Published by the Oxford University Press?
Try harder. Your comment is silly.

And this is a reason our country is not the greatest, everything is a lawsuit. It’s like back in the day in school you got in a fight and you win some lose some but are still in school. Now charges are pressed on kids, someone is looking for a dollar out of it. It’s turned into a country that just looks for the easiest pay day.

Case studies of three patients, 74, 80 and 64 years old, whose demise appears to have been facilitated by either other drugs in the system, chronic lifetime alcoholism or other risk facts (diabetes, etc.) .

If the players, or parents of players, dont like the shields then don't play. Suing isnt the answer

Society today always resorts to lawsuits when something goes against them. We are a sue happy nation.

I can’t remember if you’re just butt-fricking stupid or intellectually dishonest. My guess is both. Either way, I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing you had left here with Joe.
Regardless, this study you cite is a complete non-sequitor. Nobody is arguing heat-stroke isn’t bad for you and can’t damage your brain. For your argument, you need to provide a study that correlates the wearing of these shields to heat stroke and cite that.

But not to you, clearly.
Heatstroke is serious, can cause permanent brain damage, and sometimes death. This face shield is an untested theory, and LSU fotball is the guinea pig
So, what supplier of plastic shields to you work for?

You have it arse-backwards, as usual. Where is the study that proves putting player's heads in a plastic bubble is a safe practice?
Google 'LSU helmet shields'. This ramshackle experiment is drawing negative reviews across the country.
Posted on 8/3/20 at 1:54 pm to Buckeye Jeaux
And just to be clear, I’m not even saying that the shields aren’t, in fact, contributors to lack of oxygen and could potentially help lead to heatstrokes. I have no idea. I also have no idea whether, like another poster suggested, the potentially increased risk is worth whatever the potential rewards regarding COVID protection may be. I’m merely saying you smugly citing a completely irrelevant study like it’s some sort of drop-the-mic, /thread, “gotcha” is chicken-shite nonsense.

In any litigation that would come of this, the plaintiff would have the burden to prove by a preponderance of the evidence that the face shield represents an unreasonably dangerous condition that is not outweighed by the utility of the shield in preventing the players from contracting coronavirus.
Good luck.
