I know we have a long ways to go until ESD but it’s just frustrating that the 5 stars we are in on; Smith, Leigh, Foreman and Kool Aid are drawing it out. Meanwhile Bama and Ohio State already have 4 5 stars each. What is the secret to them getting those players to commit early and not draw out the process? You would think after a 15-0 season and a National Championship, players would be chomping after the bit to join this class. Maybe I’m missing something but it is frustrating that Bama and Ohio State seem to not be missing a beat even after finishing second fiddle to LSU.

Why exactly does it matter when they commit? So you can brag on the SECR about it? A. O is killing it in recruiting whatever the timing may be, and B. if anything, having top guys commit to us late is advantageous because it screws over the teams who were still in the running and holding out for those guys. We’re fine, take a deep breath

1) I've always heard it said that the NEXT (2022)class is the one most affected by a championship, etc. These relationships (2021) were already being formed in the recent past. Well, tOSU and Bama already had that cache'

2) The class ranking that created the greatest season ever witnessed in CFB (LSU 2019 season) were as follows {247 Composite Rank}

2019 = 5
2018 = 15
2017 = 7
2016 = 2
2015 = 5

I'd suggest anything in the Top 5 to 7 is plenty good enough to win it all

I can’t wait until we recruit better so we can have great players that win national awards and win championships.

OSU
Sawyer- instate, dreamed of being a Buckeye. Pretty simple
McCord- committed really early and is a QB who normally commit early. They pressed before anyone else
Henderson- kid they got on very early in an area they recruit well(VA). He knew where he wanted to go
Jackson- they got him on campus a couple of times last year and blew him away. He jumped aboard pretty early as well and was a longtime lean. The recruit TX well also
Adeleye- highest ranked 4 star. He's a crapshoot still. Already lots of talk he will eventually end up at Bama. He was a longtime lean to Bama before the OSU commit.

Bama
Latham- they were the early, early favorites then it seemed to flip to OSU/LSU. Last month or so before he committed the Bama surge starting being reported until he popped. He always planned to commit early and with a nudge here or there it could've been to us
Brockermeyer- much discussed here. Bama pressed hard early and the structure/NFL tradition won the day. Another that a nudge here or there and he could've been here
Payne- they pressed first and hardest for like 2 years now. Kid himself said he's known for a year. It was just a matter of him being ready to announce.
Brooks-they prioritized him and he was ready to jump and get his spot. They recruit S. FL extremely well

Others
QBs- 4-5 of them. They also grab their spots early.
Williams- Miami just committed, much to the dismay of UGA who had him locked in
Lewis- Tennessee been committed a while and seems to be solid.
Franklin-Oregon could've been Bama. Grabbing his spot
Shipley-Clemson his plan was to commit early. OSU thought they had him for a while
Sanders-Texas TX kid committed to Texas. Self explanatory

Just looking at the 5* kids, the job that Day and his OSU staff are doing in recruiting is absolutely amazing. There are a dozen or so 5* they will either land or end in the top 2-3 for. Could still land 2-3 more. Could blow the doors off the record.

Something to ponder (no, I don't have the numbers... or a link):

Seems like for some teams (e.g. tOSU, Bama) when you start hearing good things for other teams from camps, on 247, etc. then all of a sudden they commit.

And then when a 5* flips to them it is always late.

Maybe certain teams/staffs push the commit when other teams start gaining ground. Maybe there's a trigger point in which (for 5*'s) they become aggressive and pushy as a counter to other teams. Where your standard team just increases it's effort without the aggressiveness/pushiness.

What to look for: A 5* leans heavily to a tOSU or Gump, takes OV to another school. Commits less than a week later.

The school nor coach is responsible for the kids committing early. Kids commit when they want to.

I agree. You would think a couple five stars would have committed to us already after the season we had. It doesn't make sense that Ohio State and Bama are getting them already but we aren't

Player do different things and commit at different times.

Some also may want to see what our offense looks like this year.

They are certainly hearing the “LSU was the flash in the pan” or “one hit wonder” last year with Burrow and Brady that are now gone.
