You shouldn’t have to labor in a mask.

Not really. If you had a premi then it is common protocol to limit all interactions with outside environment. Sucks but it also is a bonding experience. I delivered food an necessities to my best friend and his wife. I basically had to leave it at the door to the neonatal unit or whatever it was and then walk away. They then took everything and examamined it.

There is absolufrickinglutely nothing wrong with being extra careful bringing a new child and the new generation into this crazy as world. Sure they needed to have some bumps and bruises and colds but not until they have close to a developed immune system. We aren't cavemen.

That sucks. Our hospital has labor/delivery/recovery rooms, no moving around. So maybe that helps the case of not making us wear them in our own room. Everyone who came in was wearing one - doctor, nurse, anesthesiology, labs, etc.

F that
If they try to force you tell them you can’t breathe, it’s making you feel anxious & claustrophobic

This was at woman's. Like I said earlier stuff will be in flux for policy.

That is pretty reckless.

Again...standard here is every woman admitted to deliver a baby is tested with results back in less than an hour. They are not wearing a mask while laboring either.

Think of it this way.....if they are not testing every laboring woman....lots of staff exposures. The same staff that will be caring for you and could give it to you before they start having symptoms. You want the facility testing everyone for your safety and that of your baby.

That logic tells me the husband is also tested then. Is that correct?

And to those asking why I don’t just ask the hospital, we plan on calling to get clarification tomorrow. Just thought I’d ask here first to see if anyone here knows for sure. Surely there are nurses at Woman’s hospital who have husbands who read this board.

Our son was born April 11. They did not allow me in until they knew for sure she was in labor. They took both of our temps anytime we entered the building. We did not have to wear masks. No visitors of course.

Comically enough the nursing staff was wearing an n95 with a cloth mask over it and a face shield. The face shield was tilted above their head and the masks were below their nose. They also removed their gloves to start my wife's IV, which I would think is an issue regardless of covid.

Just had our baby on May 12th at Woman’s.

You both have your temperature taken upon entrance to Woman’s.
Slight fever - you have to leave.
No slight fever - you can go in and you’re not checked for the remainder of your stay. We were there 3 days.

I don’t think so. They screen the husband and make him wear a mask the entire time. If husband is wearing a mask and all staff wearing a mask and they aren’t have physical contact....there would be no exposure from the husband.

It is also a payment thing as well....husband isn’t a patient of the hospital.

Staff aren’t having physical contact with the husband either like they are when caring for a laboring mother. Also....they aren’t expecting a woman in active labor to keep a mask on as well. So they need to know her COVID status ahead of time.

There are idiots in every profession. You would think nurses would know how to wear PPE but we are still having to correct them.

The masks over the N95 is a way to extend use of the N95 btw. You change out the surgical masks over the N95 between patients but can wear the same N95. For us...once they take it off (say for a break or whatever during their shift) we have a process to UV light their masks....they put that mask into a bag for processing and then grab another of their already UV lighted masks in storage for them on their unit. We will UV light a mask 5 times and then throw away.

Hell, I had to be tested for the Corona virus just to have a colonoscopy.

I was told the same so I refused and told them I’d reschedule when it wasn’t required

You will be waiting a good while then

For most states....they have to test in order to regain the ability to do electives again. Our hospital had to present a detailed plan to the state to be permitted to open up electives again...part of that was testing everyone prior to any elective surgeries/procedures.

Do they make the fetus sign a contract to arrive on a certain day?

My wife and I just welcomed a baby into the world Friday. She had to get tested prior to going in. They checked my temp when we arrived for delivery.

This is absurd. How do they enforce it? Catch you out and refuse to deliver your baby?

Me and my wife had a baby at Womans 2 weeks ago. My wife had to get tested for COVID but I did not. You have to wear a mask during delivery and outside of your room. Once we were moved to our room we did not have to wear mask unless a nurse requested us to, which only one did.
