Both Ford and Chevy’s in-line 6s were great torque monsters (For their size) and easy on fuel. Would last forever too. I’ve got a Ford 240 industrial 6 on a generator from the late 60s and it still runs like a top. The industrial versions used metal timing gears. Otherwise pretty much the same.

Just can’t see a 4 in a full-size. Even turbo charged. Anyone know where that engine makes its peak torque and HP? What trans is behind it? That makes a difference too. An 18 wheeler may have the same tq/hp as a 3/4 ton, but it has way more gears to apply that with.

Not a 1/2 ton but I have an RV with the V10 and it has to scream In rpms to hit peak torque and HP. I can only imagine what that poor 4 banger has to do.

lot of 2.7Liter turbo engines that are 4 cylinders.

It's because no one is buying them.

About the same as an older 5.3. A bit more torque actually and being turbo probably lower in the rpm range as well.

Still wouldn't buy it. I would however buy the 4.3 litre V6 if I wanted economy.

Don’t. My dad just got one and he says his 2016 with the 5.3 and AFM got better gas mileage.

4 cylinder turbo is more powerful than the old 4.3.

I'd still go with an ecoboost from Ford first though.

Exactly what I was going to post.

I've had 2 6 cylinder Ecoboost and I've never seen nor heard any 8 cylinder imitation noise from anywhere.

I do love to hear those turbos spool though.

Comes in upper trim trucks.

There isn't any "immitation V8 noise" coming from an Ecoboost. For starters, where the frick is it going to come from? The hidden speakers under the hood? Give me a break.

Sounds like something one of those dorky Chevy lifers came up with on the fly.

Actually something F150 owners “come up with on the fly”.

My work truck is the 2.7. It sits around 20 city and 27 hwy. Its not a bad motor, but it definitely does not sound like a V8.

If you are secure with your manhood, it's not a bad purchase

The small turbo gas engines make V8 torque. They're workhorses.

Theres reasons to not like them but capability is certainly not one.

Don't know if they're still doing it.

And I've never had a Chevy.

It’s supposed to be a very good motor and the aytomotice press seem to like it.

But my preferred engine in the Silverado and Sierra is the in-line 6 cylinder Duramax turbo diesel. 31 MPG and absolutely glowing reviews.

Second choice is the 6.2L V8 gas, which is the ultimate option if you don’t care as much about economy and demand high performance.

5.3L if you need a good engine that can tow your boat or camper. It’s been around a while and is more than adequate for almost all truck needs.

4.3L if you need a reliable work truck but only occasionally tow a trailer.

I think the 2.7L Turbo makes more torque than the 4.3L, so it probably responds much better. It would be a great engine for the smaller Colorado pickup. I guess it’s eventually going to replace the 4.3L engine in the full sized pickups.

Ford has been piping in engine noise via the cabin speakers for years.

A lot of automakers do this. Ford is just aggressive about it with their V6 pickups and the poverty spec Mustangs.

I’d have no reservations about buying an ecoboost. But this is a 4 cyl, and that does not appeal to me.

If I’m buying a GM, I’d bone up for the 6.2L. My dad had the 5.3 and it was perfectly adequate but not fun.

Pawpaw had a mid 90's half ton with a probably 200hp (at most) V6 that he drug around his bass boat with religiously.

I had a 1999 F150 with the 4.2V6 and it was a slug but still adequate for 90% of things. Rated at 205hp.

My dad used to tell me that back in the day before pickups were popular people would just put a hitch on their cars. No one needed a 6,000lb truck with a 12,000 lb towing capacity.

If most pickup owners were honest with themselves, they could get by very easily with this:

And save a lot of gas and garage space in the process.
