Been in the market for a new truck for awhile now. Narrowed down to the Chevy 2500 and f250. Both with the gas engine. Overall cost of the diesel just isn't worth it to me as I don't pull daily. Any preference between the two vehicles?

Also, if anyone has purchased a new 2500 recently, how much should I expect the dealer to take off msrp? I know the 1/2 ton trucks are discounted 12-13k. Is it the same on 1 ton?

Thanks

F-250 with the 7.3 and the 4.30s seems like it would be a beast of a 3/4 ton gas package

The new Chevy with the 6.6 gas is a sweet package. Have not driven a 7.3 gas yet.

I bought one back in July 2019 when they first came out.
2020 2500hd 4x4 Custom (which is one step above WT)
New 6.6 gas engine.
No problems so far. 11000 miles
Avg 14 mpg mixed city/hwy according to computer.

Love the truck and how it looks.
But interior not that nice.
Literally only has 2 cup holders in the entire truck (none in backseat).
And center folding console doesn’t open (no console storage).

Next model up (LT) has better interior I guess

Service Chevrolet - I think they came off like $3000 off MSRP

It looks exactly like the one in this article:

Neighbor just picked up a 2020 F-250 w/ 7.3 King Ranch on Friday. It is a very nice truck and had plenty of get up and go with the 7.3

I bought a 2019 Ram 2500 with 6.4 Hemi in Nov. and love mine as well.

Chevy 2500 probably is good as well so just pick one you like the best and go with it!

Buddy just bought one last week.

They did 41 and threw in leather. I went over his paperwork for him as he was at 52 OTD.

There was about 7k worth of shite tacked on he didn't see. He went back in and cancelled everything but the warranty and paintless dent repair.

The warranty can be had for about 670ish. And the dent repair in under 5.

Sounds stupid for the dent repair, but my cousin wears their arse out living down a gravel road Buddy has three kids. Figure they'll bump into something

I was interested in a 1500 Trail Boss Custom for $39k until I experienced that interior. Big downgrade from the previous gen Customs.

Chevy and GMC 2500 mirrors are hideous. A deal breaker. Who thought they were a good idea?

I've had lots of seat time with both new F250 and chevy 2500 gas trucks lately. Both are great trucks. I would chose strictly based on which one you can get the best deal on. There isnt enough difference in performance to talk about IMO

I’m looking at a 17 Ram 2500 4x4 with the 6.4 now. Clean CARFAX and looks to be well taken care of. How does the 6.4 do pulling a trailer?

Mine pulls my bass boat like it isn't even there (4k). It pulls my RV (9k) very easily as well. I do not pull every day or every week for that matter so going diesel just didn't add up for me.

FYI: My 2019 has the new 8 speed transmission where a 2017 will have the old 6 speed. Not sure how much difference that makes.

The Ford 7.3 is a really enticing engine.

Resale on a gas 3/4 ton sucks. The 7.3 feels much more stout than the 6.6 in the Chevy.

That is old school thinking because more and more people are opting for gas over diesel since the EPA got involved in Diesel emissions. For most people it doesn't pay:

1. More for fuel
2. More for maintenance
3. and 10K more for the same truck.

I am not saying Diesel doesn't have its place or that it isn't a better power train for towing but more and more people that need a tow vehicle that has enough payload, just not full time, are opting for the newer gas engines.

Yes it is. I hate that the old 8.1 vortec went away. Big displacement gas motors are great in HD trucks. My next one will be a ford 7.3 I think

Those are the exact reasons my next truck will be gas after owning two diesels. Current ride is a 2012 f250 I have owned since new. So hard not to pull the trigger in a new one right now with the 0% offers. Really digging the F350 tremor with 7.3 gas burner. That engine should sound mean with duals.

My neighbors new F-250 with the 7.3 is a beast and I wouldn't hesitate to own one! It is a beautiful truck!

Why link a 1500 when he’s looking for a 2500?
