What are they? It looks like two huge cottonmouths to me. Not the best pics to ID though.
Edit: pretty darn sure that is two cottonmouths

Crap.. didn’t even notice that. I thought it was two diamond back water snakes. I need my eyes checked.

You might be right, I don’t know for sure. It’s not the best pic for me to be 100% positive.

Is this the Lake Chicot outside or Ville Platte?
Or the Lake Chicot in Lake Village, Ar?

Cotton mouth,

The one in the back definitely looks like one with the band on its head.

My girl found a 4ft water snake as straight as an arrow the other day on the bank sunning itself.

I thought it was dead until the tounge flickered. She said it's a water moccasin. I grabbed a stick and caught him and threw him back in the water. Watched it swim away. She said I can't believe you grabbed that snake. I said if it was a cotton mouth I would have caught it just the same but I would have defanged it on a tree.

Doesn’t seem like something I would do for fun
Catching a water moccasin just to catch it then defanging it

No different than catching any other snake. Stick on or behind the head and grab it.

What is your reason for defanging it? You do know they will grow back, right? For lack of better vocabulary, you are just torturing the snake. Why not just kill quickly kill it?

2 big water snakes. usually pretty aggressive as well. I used to have to pull them out of my gill nets a lot when I was a kid. bite will bleed a lot, but NOT poisonous like a cottonmouth. they need a .22
