What are you getting at? When else is a virus going to jump species besides "one day?"

I think he’s pointing out the “it jumped one day and then JUST TWO WEEKS LATER mutated again” part is probably bullshite.

We don’t even know who patient zero is or how long ago they became infected.

It’s the inherent flaw of the Ideologue in full display. Ideology first, facts ...maybe later. Don’t tell me anything that conflicts with my world view. I’m very attached to my world view. Jesus, could any explanation be more simple , helpful or succinct than the OP? And it’s still too much for the ideologue. Let me consult my Marx or my Burke to know what to think first. Sheesh...

Not just that but most pet medicines are the same as humans just in varying dowsed or used for different treatments. So it’s hard for me to believe that dogs had a vaccinate for the virus but it mutated and now medical professionals have no known medicines.

People quote estimated infection rates and potential case number explosions in every single thread. Why do you have such a problem with potentially good news making its way here?

Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off.

So then how does this explain only 17% of people being infected on the princess cruise ship, and roughly 50% of those infected being asymptomatic?

Read the article or have someone read it for you. Scientists are saying this drug is showing promising results in treating Covid-19. If needed, have them explain what the word “promising” means.

The virus has to reproduce to survive and, and the immune system will eventually suppress it. So it had to have mutated to be able to infect human to human quickly after jumping to the first patient.

I suppose other scenarios are theoretically possible, but virologists have evidence to not believe they are the case.

China done fricked us all because they eat bats and made the virus mad and now its attacking humans.

It either jumped directly from bats => humans, or from bats => civets/pandolins => humans. Either way, the moral of the story is don't eat fricking weird shite. And don't sell rotting meat of weird shite in open-air markets. Chinese people are disgusting.

It's probably two fold: we don't recognize it but it hasn't fully evolved yet to be efficient in recognizing us, or all of us at least. So lots of people don't get sick.

It will evolve to be more efficient, but maybe we will have a large degree of immunity by then.

Circle of life shite.

Another article on this potential treatment....

quote:

Among the drugs being tested are new and existing antiviral therapies. And one candidate that’s showing promise is a drug that’s been in use for more than a half-century

The drug, chloroquine phosphate, was originally developed to fight malaria.

“It’s also been shown to be very effective in treating patients who have autoimmune diseases like lupus,” said Judith James, M.D., Ph.D., Vice President of Clinical Affairs at OMRF. “We use it to treat hundreds of lupus patients at OMRF.”

In China, researchers tested the drug in a multicenter clinical trial to treat pneumonia associated with COVID-19. Preliminary results indicate that the drug appears to show some efficacy as a therapy.

Scientifically, said OMRF’s James, it would make sense that an anti-malarial drug might also fight an infection caused by a coronavirus.

“When malaria gets inside a cell, if you change the pH with a drug like chloroquine phosphate, the malaria can’t live,” said James, an immunologist and rheumatologist. “The same goes for a virus like COVID-19. If you change the pH, the virus cannot assemble, and if it can’t assemble, it can’t infect you.”

I don't have a problem with good news, but his complaint was that there is some sort of media conspiracy suppressing the fact that there are drugs that can help.

The statement being made is that there are no known drugs that are effective, and that is true. I can't go in to a hospital right now and get an effective drug on a scientific basis. Anything promising or potentially is just whistling dixie until there is evidence. I've followed drugs for years that look like home runs and then take a big shite in their double blind trial and are forgotten.

Sounds like a lot of speculation. Just like there’s speculation that some medicinal remedies are being discovered.

I’ll ask again, why is it such a problem to you that someone is posting about the potentially positive news?

I find it telling that news of a potentially effective medicine to treat this virus isn’t major news on our national media outlets. I had to link a story from a local news station in Oklahoma. Why isn’t aFox, CNN, MSNBC and the rest not reporting this?

That drug is making the rounds in the news. We had a thread on it yesterday after Elon Musk tweeted about it.

Who? Why is this anonymous and espouse, verbatim, the government spin on the virus? Fake news.

I'll trust LSUS' esteemed microbiologist, epidemiologist, Amanda Sutherland to explanation of Covid-19 before this gov't backed a-hole.

I came into work this morning to get my laptop after getting the call last night to work from home. Our HSE Director was here also and showed me the email he received with this content, 2nd hand from someone who knows the LSU Assoc Prof. It had his email sig at the bottom. All looked good enough to pass on to me. I did not want to quote the name without permission or absolute verification. It just all made sense to me. Take it for what it's worth.
