So how does that work with the already 21 million dead money on top?

$15.9M of that $21 has to hit the books this year, the remaining has to hit next year. As GMoney stated, we won't know how the $50 hits us until the full terms are released. Worse case, $40.9M is this year, rest is next year. But, we all have seen how ML works.

I really don't believe some of you realize what good QB money is year to year with the way the cap works.

Welp, they better win a damn title, because that mortgaged a good chunk of the team's future even at his "discounted" price.

I've said it many times before: I will personally wheel that man onto the field for as long as he wants to suit up in black and gold.

If Cam gets a new contract and Brady goes to Tampa, could Drew be the lowest paid QB in the NFC South?

I can't believe ppl actually think this. Go look at other QB deals and get back to me. Anybody who follows the team at all knows this is really a one year deal, and is WAY less than he could have gotten on open market. We'll absorb a large cap hit next year with Taysom on a much smaller deal and everything will be fine.

Great job by Drew not killing our cap. I won’t say anything negative about him now.

People saying this is a bad deal for the Saints are dumb. Gracious move by Brees - especially if he only intends to play 1 more year.

Apparently some of you want Brees to risk another year of wear and tear on his 40+ year old body for vet minimum.

He went well below market value for a HoF QB, good on him to get his and still give the Saints some breathing more. He’ll fall somewhere around the middle of the league in QB salaries I believe and well below guys like Wilson, Rodgers, Ryan, Dak, Cousins, etc. at the top. Mahomes is going to eclipse all these guys soon as well.

Regardless of what the chicken littles on the board wanna say, Brees is THE fricking legend of this franchise and deserves every penny.

When you evaluate Brees in totality, his on field performance, his leadership, his public persona, his love for New Orleans, and his humility, it's incredible just how lucky we were post Katrina.

Even if it is a one year deal, he's only taken one real paycut and that was in 2006 when he didn't have other options based on his injury and the Saints took a risk on him.

Him taking a little less than market value (no one is paying him over $30 million if even that) is not sacrificing for the good of the team to win a title. Plain and simple.

Whether you like it or not, it will handcuff this team from signing players in the future including some of the young guys who are finishing their rookie deals.

He easily couldve gotten 30 mil from alot of teams. Compare it to other nfl qb contracts and get back to me
