I rarely post but I am fed up with what the socialist democrats are doing and what they have done to our healthcare system. I have been in healthcare for 25 years and I have watched it become destroyed through socialized medicine

I will give you just one example of how uncontrolled it is, especially since Obamacare has been enacted.

I just saw a patient that has medicaid and unlimited visits for ER and doctor visits. She has been to the ER over 50 times in less than 3 months!!!. She will not be turned away. The average cost of an ER visit is $1389. Her ER visits alone in that time span have cost the taxpayers $70,000. That is a drop in the bucket of what is going on everyday all over this country in our ERs. I spend a fortune on health insurance that is pitiful compared to what it was pre Obamacare.

I don't care if you downvote, but I just wanted to give you an example of what I see everyday in the real world

The cost of LASIK is roughly half of what it was 10 years ago.

Amazing what happens when the govt and health insurance have zero input on price of a medical procedure.

I was told Obamacare would significantly cut down on this because it would give her insurance and therefore she could go to the doctor, not the ER.

"Charge"; not cost. So what does she present with, as in chief complaint?

Don't forget the "free" ambulance ride and visit from the Fire Department everytime the PT calls 911.

I will have to tell my 81 year old that she is supposed to hate her Medicare. For some strange reason, she absolutely loves it.

If they would allow a co-pay with ER visits for Medicaid patients, that would eliminate this nonsense. However, I understand why they don't do a co-pay for legit visits. Back in my day with had a fast track area for this type patient. Didn't eliminate all of the costs but it kept them from tying up limited "true" emergency beds. We were a Level 1 trauma center so this kind of crap tied up valuable resources.

I down voted you because you did not care if I did even though I share your concerns.

frick Bernie. HC is not a right. It is a privilege. Why should you not be expected to pay for it?

The number of crazy people, illegals, homeless people, drug addicts, etc that abuse emergency departments around the country would blow your mind.

When you give someone unlimited access that is paid for with other people's money,

you will always create a moral hazard.

It's not hard.

My diagnosis -

LINK

The question is, what are you going to do about it? Why not reintroduce the triage system where paper cuts went to a non-emergency "doc in a box" type of clinic place located right in your building.
