This site doesn’t cotton to political statements from anywhere left of Greenwood.

His former band Drive By Truckers is not dialing it down either.

DBT have become insufferable.

He ruined the Anders Osborne Christmas show for me a few years ago with his whining when I had picked his night over he other to hear him jam with 'ders.

Which is sad, because Isbell has the background to tell the truth and be a great protest artist, even from a progressive/anti-trump perspective. He's happy to write about poor southern disenfranchised white men, but only so long as he can put the blame on a bank or on a GOP politician.

I can't think of a single song Isbell has written that does this. Are you even familiar with his catalog? As I said earlier in the thread, prior to this album he's written exactly one overtly political/social issue song - White Man's World.

Won’t disagree, but white mans world was the beginning of the end, imo. So sad. I’ll stand by my previous comments about southeastern being the best album of a generation.

That's fair. I'm not even a huge Isbell fan, and I'm not a fan at all of White Man's World. Not because of the message, it's just a bad song to me. I have seen him defend it on Twitter and explain where his head was when he wrote it, and I can respect that. And I only made it about 20 seconds into this new song before turning it off.

I just don't think it's fair to cast him as some political/social issue artist. His catalog is anything but that. I know he voices his opinion occasionally on Twitter as well.

He’s his own man. He can write and sing whatever he wants. I just find it annoying when he gets on his soap box and preaches to the people that don’t like his “new” direction.

Stfu, get addicted to drugs again, start to get clean and write about it

Occasionally is the understatement of the year.

His music could be described as Milquetoast except for the fact that it is soy toast beta boy drivel.

It’s a damn shame. His Truckers stuff was great. Southeastern and Live from Bama are masterpieces.

I think her pussy is what ruined him. It must be amazing for him to go full blown tard to try and impress her.

It was sweet how he adopted her kids though

I saw one his twitter that his wife’s son was transitioning and he’s only 4. Very progressive

I think BJ Barham does songs with a political lean much better than Isbell.

But Nashville sound was a fantastic record. You’re in the minority on the opinion that it somehow wasn’t.

With that being said I don’t like the production of this new song.

What? Half of his catalogue is about the plight of the southern working man, whether overtly political or not.

Good for Isbell. Reading this thread I can't help but chuckle , it proves his point.
The backlash will probably be noticeable to which I say hallelujah. His ticket prices on the secondary market are getting ridiculous.
Jason Isbell has zero fricks to give

Because BJ is more understanding and connected with his fans. He has said as much whenever the topic comes up. It cannot be overstated how important his meet and greet policy is.

Isbell is not incapable of doing it. Dress Blues and even Hope the High Road work.

His show in mobile at the saenger isn’t sold out. His last few shows there sold out quick.

His music is slipping because he is trying too hard to make woke music.
