That doesn't help your argument. Unless you are a public figure, what you do on your own time is your business unless you're wearing your employer's clothing representing their company. What kind of place do you work for that they would fire you for cursing?

Give her a call and tell her what you like to say at games.

I don't participate in the chant.

Ok, I'll start it off as far as NEW, acceptable chants are concerned. It will be the same message but it won't exactly sound the same. Plus, it will be funny, AND fun to yell.

I know I’ll get a million down votes- like I give a rip- but I agree with this-
Inviting opponents to perform sex acts on our mascot is vulgar. Those of you under the age of 40- okay 50- may think it’s not only acceptable- but mandatory to be a real fan. It’s just gross. Go ahead- downvote- but teaching your kids to shout this is sad.

How can anyone equate “ hearing a curse word” with hearing STTDB?? I heard curse words growing up, I brought my kids to the games in the 90’s and I’m sure they heard some curse words, too. But they never heard anything as vulgar as STTDB, I can assure you. And I have no idea how I would have explained that to my 5 and 8 year old - nor should I have ever had to.

[quote]just wonder, is the issue about kids or newcomers hearing the student section chanting a few curse words? Or, is it really more of a helicopter parent issue? [/quote

It’s not just a few curse words- I curse with the best of them- it’s what is being suggested that is the issue- not just overly intrusive parents.

I agree with clamdip. Organized, systematic vulgarity detracts from our university. If I can go to the football games without hearing it (the vulgar chant) that is good.
I would say that the majority of those who attend the football games agree. Perhaps that is why the band is prohibited from playing the song.
As a matter of speculation, I would think the band would prefer that the chant be discontinued so that they can play the song which they have put effort into perfecting.

Well I am certain that you being offended will make all the difference when 20,000 fans chant whatever they choose.

When you go to the beach do you ask the girls in Bikinis to cover up because your grand daughters are there?

Rational adults understand that thousands of students chanting obscenities in unison in a stadium of 100,000 is a very bad idea.

Totally agree- it was a bad look during the NC game- the win was the best - so proud of our team- but kids and their parents chanting that stupid suggestion was embarrassing - how do you honestly defend that?
Go ahead call me a whatever...

It's a little bit of all of that. Tiger Stadium deserves to be a better atmosphere than your local strip club. The kids deserve better.

You don't have to explain it. Just tell them it's adult words that they shouldn't be saying in public and that they shouldn't say that or act that way. Pretty easy.
