Damn what that list shows, which we all knew after all the juniors declared, we are seriously young on defense!

Not really
We have 5 starters returning
We are veteran on the DL
Will be young at LB behind Clark and Baskerville
Veteran in the secondary. Our corners may be sophomores but one is a freshman AA and probably the best CB in the country and the other played starter minutes for most of the season

Shea listed him on a tweet a week after the championship game when discussing defensive front for next year.

Doubt he would’ve made a mistake in doing so.

No way Marcel Brooks isn’t in the starting lineup next year. He’s too good

The operative word is “base” D. The current roster lends itself to the 4-3 a little better, but there will be a LOT of Nickel & Dime. Thinking the way the game has changed, hard to nail down exactly what “the” D is. Whatever gets the the most of the best players on the team on the field is the D.

Right now hes a really good pass rusher. This year LSU faced a lot of pass because teams were playing from behind and/or trying to catch up. If you notice Brooks was never on the field in possible run situations. I think he absolutely has the skills to be a three down player but its tbd if hes put it all together yet. He's undersized for 3 downs on the line and he's most likely not taking a spot from Stevens or Clark. I did say earlier that I'm not sold on Baskerville starting, primarily because if Marcel proves he can play in coverage I could see him filling the Sam, and Clark sliding in to Mike. I think they will rotate some early at least until one proves himself. It'll be fun to see what happens for sure. I expect they'll put the best 11 that can do their job on the field.

I’d love to see us use that 2000 Baltimore Ravens style front with 2 giant roadblocks at tackle using Ika and Shelvin in our base look. It probly won’t happen though and I think you’re close to what it’ll likely look like.

I have yet to figure out what all the hoopla is over a 4-3 scheme. When we were running it all the Rant screamed for 3-4 scheme because that is what all the really good teams were running.
Ju st off the top of my head most of the top teams are running a 3-4. Who at the top echelon is running 4-3 these days? Auburn is the best one I come up with. Who else? And why do you want to switch?

I think the tough part about running a a "4-3" d... is being caught up in a hurry up offense. But I'm interested to see how this plays out. Good competition, because I really dont know who starts and where. I do think Stevens moves to Sam, and Vincent to safety..imo

Because it’s hard for a freshman to start at DE.

Feel free Name some from LSU’s golden era.

Dude even mentioned chase young. He was simply a rotational player.

And yes Thomas, in limited snaps, looked like LSU’s best pass rusher along the line. It’s a grown mans position when you start talking starting there as a tFR

If we play a 4-3 base, I think we see a major shakeup at DE.

I think Jarrell Cherry, Ali Gaye, and Soni Fonua will be great as 4-3 DEs. Maybe even Mike Williams.

I think DTs would be Logan and Shelvin, followed by Farrell and Ika in a constant rotation.
