The runt of the liter

How do runts turn out? I have the opportunity to get one as a family dog. Will it be retarded, or super smart? Should I keep looking?

My once in a lifetime dog was the runt.

What kind of dog? Silver Lab? Pit Bull? Labradoodle?
Seriously, runts are fine as long as you get them around 7 weeks old before the liter starts establishing pecking order and the poor runt does start feeling intimidated.

My black lab was the “runt” he turned out to be the prettiest dog in the litter. He’s 10 yrs old and looks half that. He gets every bird every hunt. He’s sitting next to me rn watching the NC game replay. Best dog I’ll ever have

I almost always want the runt they tend to make a great dog. They are fighters if given the chance that’s what I pick

My runt (& only female) is now 70#
She is pretty awesome
She’s a Boxer, it’s hard to tell if she’s smart, goofy, dumb or just being stubborn

from what i notice the runts are more appreciative of attention so they have a stronger drive to please and that makes then easier to train
i dont think training is about brains as much as it is about wanting to please the owner

They turn out to be normal dogs. Remember it's not how you start, it's how you end.

Yep, nailed it
I tell anyone who asked me about dogs, for anyone with kids, a boxer is perfect provided you can spend the necessary time with them

As someone who has a boxer, and has had about 7 over the years...
The correct answer is: Yes.
As for the OP question, every runt I've had has been a wonderful dog.
