The best way to think of Aranda is from watching one of those Big Cat drills a long time ago.

I think Les was still the coach and Orgeron, Raymond, and Juluke are all excited as hell, yelling (not in an angry way but just hyped up) while Aranda is writing things in a notebook.

That scene sums him up. I don’t think he is like Belichick. He is a nice guy who smiles and won’t feud with the media. Honestly he is probably a thousand times more of a normal person than most coaches. He is probably more like a smart guy at your office who is well -liked but doesn’t really socialize much.

He will need to get some good recruiters on his staff to go throughout Texas. And if there are troublemakers, I have a feeling he isn’t going to know what to do to keep them in line. Again, he is a normal dude and not a drill sergeant or remotely intimidating.

He’s a great coach and he routinely took unheralded linebackers and made them good. And he took great linebackers and made them superstars.

One thing I wonder about is the Baptist element. He doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who will click with 75 year old Southern Baptist millionaire donors. If he wins, that won’t matter.

Super smart guy. Very good recruiter. Not a fiery intense guy. This guy is cool, calm, and collected at all times. High integrity.

I believe he learned a lot from Coach O. The biggest thing is to allow his coordinators to do their job specifically speaking on the offensive side. He will keep your defense going strong.

Aranda’s intentions/goal was to become a head coach when he first came to LSU. I think he is a good hire.

One of the best x & o's defensive coaches ever, probably the best in college football but as u know recruiting is more important cause it's about the Jimmy's & the Joe's, not the x's & o's. As stated earlier, recruit well & he'll compete with the Oklahoma's & Longhorns & tcus.

Love Dave. Hate to lose him as DC and wish him great success as a HC (though I have my reservations for the reasons others have stated).

Be good to his family. Word over the years has been that they loved Baton Rouge and that’s part of why we got to enjoy him for as long as we did.

You just picked up a fabulous coach. He is ready to be a HC and will surround himself with some of the best.

Recruiting seems to be a common negative theme; has he shown an ability to develop players well? I know you all get a lot of 4/5 stars as it is but wasn't sure if there were some guys completely transformed in their years on campus, similar to James Lynch from our team this year.

Linebackers, definitely. The other positions, no...BUT he’s probably the best in the business at assessing their natural strengths and scheming the defense to highlight those strengths and mask/adjust to their natural weaknesses.

My guess is he is a bit of a downgrade from Rhule, but Rhule is a really good coach.

Baylor has VERY solid recruiting in Texas. I live in Waco. They brought in an ex Baylor player who had been a successful hs head coach and president of the Texas HS Football Coaches Association for recruiting and it bas worked beautifully. A year after the Briles mess and they already had a solid recruiting class.

Bill Busch is a great recruiter. Dave Aranda is a great defensive mind.

No one has any idea if Aranda can run a program. But he isn’t an a-hole like Bo Pelini so I think he’ll be ok. If he gets good recruiters, he should be able to bring in talent. I don’t think Aranda is a guy that’s going to burn the midnight oil 365 with recruiting so Busch will be key.

Aranda is aa very good coordinator, but coordinators don't always make good HCs.

So no one knows

Excellent recruiter. Not much of an X and O guy though. Enjoy.

He’s kinda the opposite of Coach O, where he was known as a great motivator, recruiter, rah rah guy but not much of an X and O guy.
Aranda is the definition of the cerebral X and O guy but not sure if his recruiting, motivational prowess.

He’s one of the best DC in college and it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s successful but I could also see him failing. Always thought NFL DC would be his best position.

First, I absolutely love Aranda. He is as good a coach as they come, has no off the field issues, and is just a straight up professional. Seems to be a pleasant guy too.

I wouldn't say recruiting should be the primary worry. He can staff around it. He's not a bad recruiter himself, just not elite.

My real worry would just be his personality. He is quiet and understated. I honestly don't know if he is a strong enough natural leader to build and maintain a culture while also keeping the egos of his staff, players, and boosters in check. D1 athletes are not calm, modest people. If he is, buckle up. The world is about to meet a brand new Dave Aranda.
