Lake Highlands / NE Dallas

This would be a good spot. That area has been booming for the last couple of years. I work very close to that area.

Ehh...

Just be careful if you have a wife and/or daughters, it's called Rape Highlands for a reason.

Me too. We should connect. Valley Ranch is pretty good and almost as easy as LC.

Irving/Las Colinas can be hit or miss on the neighborhoods but the right neighborhoods are very good.

yeah but property tax is no joke if you ever buy a home. most states tax similarly, whether it is income or property.

The Crescent Hotel is in Uptown which is close to downtown. Uptown has tons of bars, restaurants and high rise condos full of people who give Dallas its motto, "Keep Dallas Pretentious". As for taxes, sure, there is no state income tax but we have some of the highest property taxes in the country and the 12th highest sales tax. We also have very high homeowners insurance. So you will probably be better off tax wise here, but its not the tax haven people think it is. As for where to live, it depends on your budget and whether you are a suburban guy or a city guy. The city proper is booming with people wanting the urban lifestyle which has caused housing costs to double in the last few years. The Dallas schools are good for elementary, average to mediocre for Jr. High and if you can get your kid in a magnet high school, they are some of the best in the country. There are some magnet Jr Highs that are good too. You're probably looking at $600k and up for a 3 br 2 bath house in a good neighborhood in Dallas, so you can definitely get more for your money in the burbs. But then you are looking at a commute which I wouldn't want to do but plenty of people don't mind it.

Thanks

We are in the city now and would like to get out to the suburbs so we can have a decent yard.

This place has a ton of people who live in Dallas who post here. All seem to really love it.

I’ve never lived in Dallas, but as a former Houston resident, i can tell you that once you see your property tax bill- you’ll realize that the ‘no state income’ thing that Texans tout is a joke, and that they’re getting your money, just in a different way.

Lake Highlands is fine

You won't be living in an apartment

Just make sure you're in the right elementary school neighborhood. White Rock is where I'd look.

Dallas is extremely liberal. They don't prosecute theft there.

The large majority of rape victims in LH didn't live in apartments.
