2x a month, but on what days? I commuted back and forth each week for several months. If your days AND times are flexible then you can find cheap fares from MSY by shopping between Spirit, United, and Southwest, i.e., depart MSY on Southwest to Hobby then return to MSY on Spirit from IAH. United was never doable unless I was willing to take a very late flight. Also, FYI, the drive can be super easy or turn into a nightmare. I once had traffic in Houston then in Beaumont then in Lake Charles and then on the basin and it took like 7 or 8 hours.

What are the best options out there other than driving your own car?

I go to Houston a couple times a month from nola. I like to drive my own truck when I can but I sometimes will fly private or commercial. Just depends on who I’m traveling with or going to see.

What other options are there?

I drive to Houston 4 times a month. It’s really not that bad of a drive.

Take Greyhound to Lafayette. Lafayette's Greyhound station is (or at least was recently) a block from its Amtrak station. Walk to the Amtrak station and then take Amtrak to Houston. You can get a room in a sleeper car and nap on the way there or get a cheaper coach seat but just hang out in their lounge car instead and drink.

Between those 2 trip probably takes 18 hours

Not really a ‘regular’ commute- but for several years when i lived in Houston, i made the drive to BR twice a month for LSU home games.. it sucked because that’s a tedious drive to begin with, and traffic on game day Fridays made it unbearable.. but that was only 7 or 8 times a year, so not too bad.

My brother lives in NOLA and has to go to Houston twice a month year round for work; he takes a Wheels Up jet and he likes it.

You’re not the first poster to mention driving from BR to NOLA, then flying to Houston.. but to me that would be the last thing i’d Ever do.. you’re spending an hour and fifteen minutes driving to MSY, then have to go through security, then wait to board , then the flight itself , then luggage claim , then renting a car in Houston or Ubering- and that’s IF the plane isnt delayed, which happens to me more often than not... You would actually get to Houston quicker by just driving directly there from BR.
