Parents around Chicago used to put their kids on a waiting list for the Grand Prize Game when they were born. Someone a grade below me got the call one year, and he was treated like the neighborhood hero for about a week. It was the damndest thing.

Don't remember which bucket he blew it on, but he didn't get close to winning.

I could have tossed the balls into the bucket and won.

I don’t know that I ever missed an episode.

“And...A. Brand. New. Crisp. $50 dollar bill!”

Good memories

They put sponges in the bottom of the buckets to keep balls from bouncing out. You had to be really unlucky or just a terrible shot to miss the first few.

Holy crap. I did some digging and you must have seen a franchised taping.

ETA I was wrong I didn't realize that local stations did their own shows for a while.

I always thought it was just the Chicago version that was the only one.

Yep, loved the Bozo the Clown show.

Never made it to a taping but, my grandmother did get us on Popeye & Pals twice!

Heck yeah I remember Bozo. I rode my bike to school and if I stayed to watch the entire grand prize game I was either late or I had to peddle my arse off to be on time.

And of course Schwinn Bike for Bucket 6 and a brand...new...crisp...50 dollar bill. Whoa

For 2 years the fricking bus would turn the corner on our street right at bucket 5 on the first player. That was heart wrenching.

I used to lose my mind when they'd have a little kid that couldn't even make it in the 2nd bucket

No kidding. I bet the avg contestant was about 2.8 to 3.2. Bucket 5 rarely happened.

The prizes if I remember well

1 - chocolate potato chips and various candies and a Polaroid with Bozo

2 - birthday cake and some toy

3 - wildcard; food and toy.

4 - wildcard; usually a cool GI Joe toy if you were a boy.

5 - town and country skate wagon

6 - bike and 50 bucks.

I think I saw bucket 6 made 3-4 times. Also, if you missed bucket 1 (it happened), Bozo gave a do over.

So I guess that randomized lottery meter that picked the ticket was all bullshite? Poster said folks were predetermined.

Bozo would tell the kids they just had their picture taken so they could have a "photo-giraffic pimento" of themselves playing the grand prize game.
