A steroid shot for a CHF patient seems a recipe for water retention and volume overload. Don’t get medical advice on the OT.

Most people know Steroid meds cause weight gain, but I didn't know it was b/c of water retention? Would/Could a diuretic off set that?

Yes. They will cause sodium retention which causes volume retention.
That's the short term reason. Long term weight gain from them is entirely different.

Yes. The question is "how much." It cannot be predicted across all patients with great accuracy. So a patient teetering on the edge may be pushed over (into heart failure). A patient who's well-controlled may not even notice.

You need a cortisone shot and a quick round of antibiotics. If you go in, that's what they will give you.

Then this message board will tell you how bad antibiotics are for you and how you're destroying humanity.

Stay in your lane bro. Why the frick you need antibiotics for a cold? So he can have raging diarrhea on top of everything. Having a cold sucks but unfortunately you need to toughen through it. And I GUARANTEE you those doctors at the urgent care will not take into account your CHF when they give you medications.

I learnt somethin on the OT today. Not like I'd ever be diagnosing anyone but it's interesting science stuff.

It's not so much that as it is wildly unnecessary based on tons of supporting evidence

Dude if it’s a CHF exacerbation you need a doctor. This can be very serious. Ifs it’s a rhinovirus “cold” then OTC Med’s .

But they can bump a 99213 to a 99214 if you're savvy.

Back home and feeling a bunch better. We were on our way and my friend, a GP doctor called, had called back and told us to meet him at his office.

Got there and they had two other people waiting to see him.

Anyway a breathing treatment, a roid shot and some other drugs, I doing better. He even took care of the wife with the same treatment.

I take 80 mg of Lasix a day. And yes, the last couple months I have been holding extra fluid, but, I have been getting it off of me. I'm 6' and my weight today was 172. Normal weight is around 165. So things are working towards the good side.

Will keep doing the breathing treatments and he told me if I start up again, get to the ER.

Oh, thanks again folks and have a Merry Christmas.

This is what you need. You will have a long wait though. Pull up Lake After Hours website and you can print all the paper work out and fill out ahead of time. Also you can check in through the website and save you some time waiting in the waiting room with all the other sick people
