Well we were cleared of any wrong doing so the record is legit. And we should we claim it. I do personally and consider LSU as having won 4 NCs instead of the traditional 3.

And another thing. The 2008 LSU squad is the first Southern team who was selected by any publication or source as a NC. Who was second? Georgia Tech 1917 and in fact are considered to this day the first consensus NC from South of the Mason Dixon Line. Alabama did not get its first title until 1925 (was legitimate as they won Rose Bowl outright and were 10-0).

1908 and 1936 are both head scratchers

1936 we lost the Sugar Bowl. I know many polls released their final version before the Bowl games, which was stupid. But that year should not have been considered by any publication a NC team. A great team for the time. But if you lose the Sugar Bowl there should be no consideration for a National Title.

That is why in hindsight Bama's '73 claim is bogus. They lost to ND in their bowl game. '65 with a 9-1-1 record and '41 with two losses are bogus as well. Yes I know we lost 2 in 2007 but we had a system in place for determining a champion that involved a final BCS game.'41 was solely based on polls. And just because one defunct and obscure poll picked them number one they claimed a title years later.

Minnesota did not even play a bowl game that year.
You seem to not realize that.

Minnesota was ranked #1 in a FINAL POLL which came a month before the bowl game was played. Bowls had no bearing on it whatsoever.

Bowls at that time were considered exhibition games, and were played and part of a pageant to entertain and reward the players and teams.

Regardless, the question for you is why Minnesota was ranked above LSU in the Final AP Poll. The answer . . . . the AP was based in Minneapolis.

We lost a Bowl game and bowl games have always mattered. We had an excellent team for the time. Minnesota was a great team too. I will accept 1908 for sure but not 1936 and I am as P&G as it goes. Agree to disagree and no need to post about it anymore. I am right, your wrong and the Universe is all wonderful for it:).

Get a petition started. I’ve always felt 1908 should be recognized.

No, they didn't. You're just wrong about this. Bowl games were just for fun at one time.

The NCAA freakin recognizes it so not sure why LSU doesn’t.

Doesn’t even seem debatable really.

People should never draw historical conclusion based on modern sensibilities. The AP and Coaches pols (and all others). Were decide before bowl games because bowl games were effectively considered exhibition games. Pre bowl championships were the norm until 1968 for the AP and 1974 for the coaches poll. Part of that was because there were just a few bowl games and most were typically controlled by one conference (Rose was an exception). The sugar bowl had 2 SEC teams at least 3 times, LSU vs Ole Miss, Alabama vs Ole Miss, and Georgia Tech vs Ole Miss.

LSU was not awarded a trophy for the 1908 season championship. Therefore, there's no championship to "claim".

Either you are illiterate, or you did not read the post you responded to.

A bowl game played after FINAL rankings obviously cannot impact those rankings.

We cheated our frickin asses off. That's why.

We legit recruited, poached, and paid several pro players to come down here and play for LSU.
