How much is goal to save for each kid’s college?

Only one child here, and it’s a tough question. So far I’ve just put money away in a 529 program, but I’m still not sure what all types of expenses that program is good for...and what happens if they get scholarships?
$50-60k? That would cover in-state (Ms State or Ole Miss), out of state to LSU would be 2-3 times that, Auburn 4.
OT answer, $350k.

$0
Let them pay for their own education. The stakes are higher when you have skin in the game

My wife and I both put ourselves through school. It'll be even easier for our children so they'll be expected to do the same.

frick that, I’m not letting him ‘follow the dream’ to a community college. If he can’t get a Div 1 scholarship he’s not playing for a school. I’d pay a year if he makes preferred walk on or some crazy shite like that.

Dog Charm School isn't that expensive, so we're probably just gonna wing it.

most states offer a pre-paid college program that cover tuition and books, some housing, that can be purchased at anytime from birth to 18, gets more expensive as the kid gets older, for any in state school, if not used it will be refunded, if used at a school not in the program it can be transferred to that school

I would suspect you'd be able to finagle in-state.

In MS it froze the tuition at any school in state, but I felt the 529 offered more flexibility. I really didn’t know, chose the 529 instead.

I’ve been encouraging our kid to become a plumber so he can help Dad and I pay off our student loans.

150k per kid but not all in a 529
